Tool chest drawers soft close

I hate those "soft close" style drawers anywhere. Kitchen or workshop. The kind that, when you go to open it, it tugs back and fights you for the first inch or 2. Its just an annoyance I dont want to deal with.
So I was looking at some Husky toolchests at HD, They all seem to be infected with the soft close virus. I like the cabinets tho. Is there some way to defeat the soft close mechanism ?

By swapping out the slides for non soft close ones?

The more weight you have in the drawer the less you'll notice the soft-close mechanism. The way a drawer feels empty is completely different to how it feels loaded down with tools.

My wife used to fuss constantly how I'd leave drawers and cabinet doors open. It was usually because I was rushing around and didn't want to slam things, so I left them ajar. I don't do that anymore because we have the soft close on everything in the kitchen and bathroom.

Yeah I'm loving the soft close drawers and cabinet doors on all my kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities now (remodeled in the past two years).

Hell, I love it on my toilet seats too.

I'm still rocking my early 2000s Kobalt POS tool chest and upper (it's fine, it serves its purpose well... it's just tiny). So I don't know what the soft close is like on a tool box drawer. But I'd imagine I'd like it much the same as my kitchen, bathroom and toilet.

There is usually a mechanism on the slide for it. Take a peek, I bet you could remove it.

That said, I would love soft close drawers on my tool chest

Sure. Just buy the cheaper ones that don't have that feature. Spend what you save to buy more tools.

Me too! I remembered after getting home from visiting family that I do not have a soft close toilet seat when it slammed down. Thankfully I had already zipped up!

Soft close are great! Helps keep drawers closed during small earthquakes and when moving the tool chest around.

If you don't like them, don't buy them or try and find the benefits they provide.

You could always go vintage/older. You'll get more box for your money and no soft close.

I don't have soft close anything but one annoyance I do have with tool box drawers is how all my tools end up sliding towards the back of the drawers from closing them too hard (and I don't slam them). I use drawer liners but I don't stick them down, I rely on the weight of the tools to keep the liners in place but they get bunched up eventually from closing the drawers hard enough to slide everything a fraction of an inch at a time until you notice how screwed it's gotten.

I bet soft close drawers eliminates this.

I have Griplatch on my Craftsman stainless boxes purchased about ten years ago. Effortless opening and closing. Love em! Should be the standard on all box brands!

B) it’s hard to take seriously anyone’s opinion who would consider buying a craftsman tool box for any reason this day in age. If that’s what stopped you, well, I guess you got there in the end. But ***’on man, Craftsman hasn’t made a box (or tool for that matter) worth a damn in 25 years…. I say this as a 37 year old. Wake up and smell the homeless my friend, you’re out of touch, gone round the bend, don’t know up from down, a hole in the ground from your…. I digress.

Soft close bugs me too, as totally unnecessary. How do you close a drawer or cabinet door? Easy! You push on it til it stops. Then take your hand off it.

There. Done.

You can just pull the catch out of the soft close part. Fairly easy to figure out how to disable them.

I want to reach over and flip a drawer open with on finger.... not plant my feet and hamfist the knob in order to get past the first two inches of resistance.

Call me old school or a "caveman" but I think the real caveman is the one that can't figure out how to close a drawer or door softly.
