Tool chest id?

I got this rolling tool chest at garage sale. There is obviously no key and locking mechanism. It looks like a bar is supposed to drop in from top somehow to secure the drawers and door but I have no idea how? No makers mark or stamping anywhere. Can anyone help me to be able to maybe recreate the locking mechanism? Thx in advance!

I wonder if your key in the top drawer also trips a lever in the top which pushes a bar down the back to lock the rest.

or did you only put valuable stuff in the top drawer?

never mind, see the fuzzy slots at the front of the drawers, had to zoom in a bit

No key, there is no bar in the back but the drawers have a 'hole' in the front behind the handle if you look close that would line up with a bar of some type thru the top slot.
I have removed the drawers and handles as I am repainting it and would love to be able to secure it.

Is there a matching slot (hole) in the bottom of the roller for the lock bar to extend out the bottom?

What is the back of the lock in the top drawer like? Can you post a photo of that area? It may have originally had a way to lock the bar.

Is there a place to stow the bar when not in use? Perhaps a slot in the top just oiutsside of the drawer slide area.

No hole out the bottom of the roller, no place to store a bar either.

I would guess then, that your bar might have to go through a similar loop in the back of the door, and maybe in the bottom of the roller, to contain the bar. Seems that unlocking the top drawer only gives you 1/2” or so to open the top drawer, til the bar hits the loop, then pull the bar up, to unlock the other drawers and door. Based on the notch in the cam lock, it may engage the bar, turning CCW. Turning CW would engage the top lip of the frame, and may also retain the bar, tho it looks like it hits the lip of the drawer.

I think the bar was fairly short and had a bend in the "top" end to keep it from falling down the hole. It was only long enough to reach down to the slot in the top of the cover for the lower compartment. It had a notch that the hook of the lock engaged to keep it from being lifted up. By dropping it down from the top, it engaged all the drawers and the top of the front cover, which would lock everything. Rotating the lock in the top drawer would retain it, keeping someone from lifting it out.

It was probably short enough to stow in one of the drawers.

Thanks for the props on the paint. On Rem Line boxes I have seen the handle ends flared out, these wrap back in...

i had one exactly like that one. it had the lock slide bar also. i got it at a yard sale for $20. i gave it to my 18 year old neighbor.
it had no emblem or logo just like yours.
its not a Rem Line.
i always thought it was a Montgomery ward or J.C.Penny tool box
