Tool Chest Tubular Locks

So I was cleaning up for the evening and went to lock my tool chest and the lock fell out, landing on the inside of the chest and all of these little pins and springs fell out. It’s a Craftsman Heavy Duty Premium Black top box with the tubular style lock/key. Is that repairable or am I SOL?

Is it possible to swap those locks out in favor of regular Craftsman locks with keys that have actual teeth?

can either buy craftsman locks or go to hardware store or measure up and buy online with little effort and little $
Loads of barrel lock sets will work either straight off or with minor work to use original lock latch arm.

I would just replace it with the original style lock. Find your boxes model number and give waterloo industries a call. They will be able to help you, their customer service is excellent. It should not cost too much they tend to be very reasonable, much more reasonable than sears prices.

They are not that hard to find, pretty standard, you need to put in some leg work. Or see if there is a number on the lock follow that.

Thanks for the information guys! I’ll give Waterloo a call. I have the # of the lock, but I could not find it on the easykeys website. Honestly, I never was fond of the tubular locks. I much prefer to swap these out with something else but then again, maybe keeping them original is a good thing.

You may not even have to call and get one; my local Ace hardware has universal lock kits to repair these for very low prices. You just find one with the same size square lug to fit your actuating lever, and same length and diameter, and install it. 15 minute job typically.

I done single top box cylinders for 5 to 10 bucks (real basic ones as cheap as 3bucks) and 2 or 3 keyed alike cabinet sets for under 30bucks and little to no messing about fitting them especially top chests .

I went to the local locksmith and when I wanted to replace a lock on my locker. Price for me was cheaper then anywhere else and it was around $7.00. It was the exact same style has I already had but it was with a cam twist handle on it and a tubular lock cylinder.

Unfortunately, my knowledge of locks and how they work is a 2 out of 10. I’m torn between keeping the original tubular locks or swapping both out for tumbler locks. This is just a top box and bottom chest with no middle. It was a floor display at Sears a couple years ago that I picked up on clearance.

So I’m assuming that tumbler locks will shoe right in and be an excellent replacement? Is there anything I should keep in mind when purchasing? I’ll probably stop at Ace on my way home since they’re down the street.

You best pulling both locks so can compare and get easiest tumbler replacement match, these type of locks pretty common and have pretty standard matching sizes once start looking into it .
bottom cabinets main issue can be drive arrangement onto cylinder for more odd ones but even that overcome easily with few minutes tweaking or light fabrication at worst .

I called Waterloo this morning an ordered a new lock. They’re sending me a replacement lock that matches the # of my bottom chest... so the whole setup will be keyed alike. $25 shipped and friendly customer service make this a no hassle win! I’m happy.
