So today I decide to try to clean up a couple double open end wrenches that have kicked around mine and my pops shops ever sense I can remember. They had some surface rust so I hit them with a wire wheel. First two I did were the same wrench both stamped Forged in the USA on the big jaw side which is 25/32 on the other side of that head is what looks like an X in a circle. The other head is marked 5/8 and on the other side of it is stamped 1028-S. The third wrench is stamped Williams USA one head is 3/4 the other is 9/16 on one side of the shank is stamped 728 the other is lightly stamped US Government Property.

Attach them to a text message and put your own E-mail address instead of a contact number.

I was not smart enough to do this until my brother showed me. That is the only way I have to get them off my phone. :(

Save them to your computer. Most you have to hover over..right click..and save as.

Then upload them as an attachment when you post here. Hope that helps.

Don't have a computer just a stupid phone that for some reason won't do that **** probably operator error.

Anyway a quick serch of the Duro Chrome on Google revield the marking used between 1942 and 1945 the Williams is of the same vintage. So I guess a good score. If anyone is interested in them PM me.

Little more info on these wrenches. Just got off the phone with my dad, he said those were my grandpa wrenches. He said back in the day my grandpa used to work in a factory building locomotives, during the second world war the factory retooled to build tanks. How awesome is that. Oh yeah they are no longer available I am keeping them.

What zuk said, and to that I will add that they go in a WW2 era Jeep on-board toolkit 5-wrench engineer's or DOE wrench set. Duro-Chrome (and several other mfgr's) added a 10 to the front of the ISN size numbers (i.e., 28-S) as a way of indicating a better alloy steel.

Not a Jeep, Dodge or GMTK size. Possibly Chevy CCKW, or some application I am not familiar with. And, it's a post-war wrench. Williams switched to that logo in 1946. Prior to that, Williams wrenches had Williams underline script over 'FORGED IN < W > U.S.A.'.

It is Williams underline script over foraged in the USA logo.

Does it have the W in a diamond (like this... < W > ) in the middle of the FORGED IN U.S.A? (I edited my post to show that because the HTML code removed it the first time, reading the brackets as code...)? If so, it's wartime. If no Diamond-W logo, just Williams over USA, then post-war.

Link-belt -
From what I can see it's a Williams Superior carbon steel and it IS WW2. Even though we can't see the < W >, the U.S.A. is way to the right - and on the post-war models it was directly under the WILLIAMS. And they marked the ISN on the shank like that in huge numbers. (I had a set of 5 at one time, sold them to a guy with a GPW - Williams was a known Ford supplier.) Those were gorgeous wrenches finished from the factory - black japanned with polished jaws and faces. The Duro-Chromes are legit - and look to be in very good condition.

Anyway - nice wrenches, and I hope you find more. My entire collection was kick-started with tools and some other gear I inherited from my dad, a WW2 veteran.

Thanks for posting those pics for me Private Lugnutz. I was pretty sure the Williams was of the same vintage because of the property stamp.
