One of my big irritations these days is how many sets of tools come with no good case or pouch. The boss recently gave me a 5 piece set of easy outs & a small tap & die set; 6-32 up to 1/4x20.

See pic. I cut down a toothbrush tube for the easy outs. Works well.

I have an old drill bit case & a couple of hard shell eyeglass cases. I’m going to try fixing up one of them for the tap & die set.

I store certain tools in those telescoping tubes that machining tooling come in. I always save any that I get & buy new ones from McMaster. Just picked up a couple of more this morning actually.

Clear polyethylene tubing w/ vinyl vacuum caps on both ends works very well for me.
Tubing is cheap and comes in 1/8" increment diameter sizes. The fact that it's very transparent (when new) is a plus.
Vinyl vacuum caps are so cheap they're almost free. They stay on when you want them to and come off easily when you tell them to.
I started using them for taps, round/needle files, and other bits that I didn't want to get nicked/chipped/broken/rusted/dirty.

Agreed, I use those too but for smaller stuff like end mills. I also get it from Mcmaster, on the same page I linked above. The tubing is dirt cheap, the end caps they sell for them not so much. I don't care about the non rolling feature so like you I buy vinyl caps to use with them.

That is one thing Dewalt had over Milwaukee on their cordless tools. The plastic cases by Milwaukee ****. You have no room for drill bits ect. The Dewalt boxes, you could put drivers and bits in. When you needed a drill you could grab the box and it was all there. Why do they think if I need a drill I would want to pull a case with both my drill and a 1/4" impact driver up through a roof access.
Impact wrench cases same way. Dewalt had room for a few sockets and a extension. Milwaukee you need another bucket or bag. Their press kit, why is the case so damn big and heavy? Yet if you get the mega press extension kit they come in the same size plastic box as the full press kit. Might as well had 1 case for all since its too heavy and unrealistic to carry it for small service jobs anyway You have to open it up and carry it onto a job in a 5 gallon bucket the pieces you need.

I have a milk crate full of containers of all sizes, that stuff has come in. From very small plastic boxes and tubes, to Altoid and small cigar tins, Cetaphil jars (very nice but opaque), and Talenti gelato jars (feel like polycarbonate, with a screw on lid). Some of the larger containers temporarily hold smaller ones that would slip through the milk crate, until I need one.

Multimeters, tire plug kits, OBD scan tool I went to Target or Walmart and bought the smallest size they fit in of the Glad plastic containers for food/sandwiches. Usually the bottoms are clear and can find ones with opaque lids. Electronic items are well protected and you can get a 3 pack for like $3.50 or so.
