Since I started switching stuff over to fill the new cart, my son thought it would be fun to count every socket and wrench, lol...

Between the 3 boxes there are around 650 sockets and 200 wrenches. He has set a goal for himself to have as many as me by the time he graduates high school, lol. He has 120 sockets right now, and 30 wrenches, so he is on his way...

I don't even want to think about counting....one thing I know is my pliers drawer has 3 rows of pliers (stored vertically), and the drawer is probably 40"....so that drawer may be home to 120 pair of pliers. The rest of the box is at least that full.

I don't even want to count my tools. Would take WAY too long. I have three big Husky 40" box sets with tools in every drawer plus a little 26" that is going to be upgraded to another 40" soon. That's not counting the tools on various sections of my workbench, larger tools stored elsewhere that don't fit my boxes, and the tool kits I keep in each vehicle.

I don't feel so bad about what I have now.

The funny thing is most guys on here have preferred sets so they'll own an absurd amount of sockets but end up using primarily 20 or 30 (across all sizes and impact). Good to have options but bad to have too many options because you gotta dig through everything.:dunno:

Holy hell, I wouldn't even want to try counting all the stuff I have. I know I am well over 100 ratchets, probably closer to 120-130. Sockets and wrenches? Who knows!

Yep. Not going to bother with this. I used have more tools than I do now, but I'm not worried about numbers. Some people have way too much redundancy in their tools. Mine are quite varied and I generally only have the varieties and sizes I actually use.

Who counts their tools? Take photos for insurance purposes and maybe a cursory excel inventory and valuation.

My head hurts just from thinking about counting all my tools. There's my craftsman box, three overflow bags, 1 old toolbox, plus all my stuff at work.

I'm not about to try and count........Here are some ratchets and most of the drawers in 8 boxes (not counting the KRL triple bank main box) look like this. Then add in the 9 display boards:willy_nil

Yeah, my son obviously has mild OCD, but my sockets are much easier to count, Twertsy your box would drive me nuts, how do you find anything?

When I need a 13mm socket, I have 6 of them in 3 different locations, so depending where I am in the garage, I can always get a socket or wrench, I just have do decide, impact or chrome, 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2", 6pt or 12 pt, and deep, semi deep, shallow, super shallow, or flex. And out of the 18-13mm sockets I have I dont have to pick up anymore than the one I want.

My son is already the same way, as I can't have any empty spots, and like things in even numbers and sets he does the same thing. Funny enough I learned this from my father, except by the opposite, my fathers box is a MESS.
I was helping him change the starter in his powerstroke and looking for a 10mm socket was driving me crazy. Then my father got out from under the truck and looked in his drawer, he said he could't find one because I shuffled through and he had left it "right here", I was like "cmon" we finally found one, and my son was there so he started organizing that drawer, probably 150 sockets in there, turned out there was like 5 10mm, but trying to find one would test mother terasa...

Everything is very organized in my main box. Those are my "collection" boxes where some, like my Bonney box, Proto box, and KRA are much more organized. But the ones I throw hauls into from auctions or whatever are a bit less meticulously managed.

Twertsy, that is clearly the result of big batch buys. Sort first by brand then a rainy day spent making sets by style and vintage?

Old DOE are my passion and at one time l had a ton of them 1960's to 1920's in the collection. Several dozen sorting sessions over the last years have first reduced the too modern, then the less desired brands and styles until what remains is far more a controlled mess. Wrenches sorted by brand into plastic bags then a few dozen bags in a small wood crate.
Buying habits have changed too, only those that fit a main interest will be taken home now. The rest remain in circulation for anyone else.

At my new house l will make a display case and lay out all my rusty gems to be admired. No space where we're at now.

I have a word file that lists pretty much every tool I have. But I keep it on my work computer which almost never comes home. No way would I want my wife to be able to google search and find how many tools I own. You guys are brave!

If you never count all the tools, you are not lieing when your wife asks "how many tools do you have?" And you reply " I don't know".

Believe it or not, they are actually sorted/grouped and most are lined up by size now in order to identify missing items within sets, and some even organized by "era/date." I do have a couple drawers full of miscellaneous brands that need to be gone through but Fleet, P&C, Thorsen, Bonney, Proto, Challenger, Wright, Williams, Cougar, S-K, Mustang, Kreauter, Wizard, Indestro, SO, Plomb, Easco, Walden, New Britain, and Herbrand are all sorted and organized.
