I use to go to Surplus sales store when they had it open in Kent, WA.

On any given day, you could find a little bit of anything.

Now evidently they do it all on line......

Closed down store to save employee overhead, I guess

The majority of the items have no bids at the starting price. They will just keep re-listing at the same, sometimes a slightly lower price until it sells.

X2 !! When we go to Seattle, my wife wants to go to Pike Street, the downtown mall and Trader Joe's. I have to go to Hardwick's and in the past, the Boeing Surplus Store. It was always an adventure. I've bought some specialized thingamajigs for countersinking aircraft rivets. which cost $250 each new. I've used them maybe once, but for the $1 each, I just had to have them.

When I lived in Washington in the late '90s my dad and I would go to the Boeing Surplus Store about once a month. They had a ton of cool odds and ends and a lot of bigger equipment and office furniture. The little stuff was always the best, odd boxes and containers and weird airplane specific tools. To bad they closed up the store front.

Boeing has adopted the community toolbox idea within the various departments of their plants. I'm sure they acquire great quality tools for their needs. Whatever is being sold off is likely stuff that's obsolete or nearing wear-out but still useable. They have lot's of nice IR air drills. I know that they also use lot's of Proto hand tools as well. Unfortuantely you never see that Proto stuff sold off. It must holdup pretty well in a manufacturing environment.

Man, some of those Stanley Vidmar and the 20 drawer card catalog would be SWEET. The prices are pretty cheap on most of the things I wanted, but a pickup in WA wouldnt work. Anyone near the WA locations want to make play shipper?

If I was local to the sales, you can be sure that I'd be picking up a pallet lot of tools from them. There's actually a seller on eBay who buys pallet-loads of tools from Boeing, and sells them off via eBay. There was a lot of ~100+ c-clamps, I would have loved to get that, take what I need, and sell off the remainders.

So is the old "surplus" store what was called "The Yard". I was told that each airframe build was assigned all new tools... most hand tools were Snappy. When the plane is done all the tools are sold off (buy the lb.) as worn wrenches will damage fasteners setting up stress risers which could lead to failure... got this from an aircraft maintenence tech who used to work in seattle.
