tool drawer liner that doesn't bunch up?

The foam mat in the drawers of my mobile tool cart (4 drawers) keeps bunching up at the back of the drawers, both from me closing the drawers, and from moving the thing around as I have a big bump that I have to go over in between the garage and the carport.

I'm temporarily use double sided tape to keep the mats in place, but honestly I'd like to replace the liners because the foam is already not holding up so well after a few months.

Suggestions on liners?

Yoga mats. That's all I use in my boxes, socket trays and carts. About $5 for a deep roll. Stuff stays in place, cut to fit and voila. Lots of colours as well, mine is extreme green to easily ID tools. Cleans up easily, too. a12ffdde9bb47f20273e8e68df048285.jpg

This^^^^ I get yoga mats (mine are gold, BTW - easier to see with, especially since my TOOL MARKINGS are extreme green), and cut them to fit. Been doing this for a year and have no plan to go back to the old Indoor-Outdoor carpet. And the "official tool drawer liners" are too thin and flimsy for my liking.

unfortunately I can't have it be too thick, any thicker than 1/4" and a few items may not close well.

How thick are those? they look pretty thin in that photo

The Snap-on liners don't bunch up. They are a PVC impregnated reinforced fabric. They are thin and very sticky. The only negative is they don't come in roles and they are quite expensive. I've had the same set that came with the box and they're still like new. Got the box with liners in 1999.

Yoga mats gets another vote been using them almost 20 years and zero complaints. And like mentioned an array of colors.Purple,Green, and Orange are my go to colors.

What cart do you have? I'm going to assume the HF 4 drawer? That type of foam liner in those does bunch or move around in the drawer since it doesn't really stick. Most of the other "non slip" foam toolbox liners that come in rolls will actually adhere to the drawer some and stay in place.

I use underlayment that is sold for wood floors, big roll of gray for about $10-15 and stick glue the corners and edges, its about 18" thick, pretty tough stuff.

yea, the HF 4 drawer. My only complaint really, is the liners.

I got a roll of indoor/outdoor matting at Home Depot if I remember right. Rubber on one side, and a real thin ribbed carpet fiber like on the other. It cut real nice and was fairly inexpensive. It's less than a 1/4" thick. I'll try and update with a picture

I used Super 77 on my black kitchen liners (way cheaper in the kitchen section of Home Depot than the same **** in the tools section) and wider for my deep box.

Next tool box will be the same but the green Grip brand at Princess Auto as I don’t mind the drawers to pop when they get opened.

Pig mat liners are really nice. Not cheap but they don’t bunch up and are absorbant without getting nasty.

Same here.

And where I want to use cork sheet, I use cheap hot glue because it will peel right off the metal drawer in the future. (I do not use my billy badass 3M glue for this as it sometimes is kin to epoxy)

Here we go again. GJ members are pretty good at choosing the right tools for the job except when it comes to drawer liners. In this case it's almost anything but the right tool for the job. Lets see we have:
- Carpet/Underlayment
- Exercise mats
- Stall mats
- Used conveyor belts
- Foam
- Treadmill belts
- Used mud flaps
- Liners that involve gluing down

When all else fails order a roll of PVC tool box drawer liner from Nu Source. It's thin which means more storage, it doesn't slip, it's tough, it's pretty cheap in bulk and is as good, or the same, as the stuff SO uses in their KRL boxes.

OK carry on:bounce:

I love this stuff. Available in different sizes. Some think it's too sticky. I think it's great.

I got a few rolls of this in the mail, so far it's working quite nicely! I see what you mean by some folks think it's "too sticky". It sticks very well to the drawers and tools, but I wonder after a few months of use how much dust, dirt, and whatever else if floating around in the wind will stick to it while the drawers are open for a bit.

Will see how it works out. For now, it's working out very nicely. Many times better than my old drawer liner, which didn't stick to anything. Thanks for the suggestion, so far so good :)

Please do not spray real adhesive on the metal drawers of a good toolbox. Think about the next guy that has to get it off after you are gone.
