Hope this is right spot for this kind question. Now that I have nice rolling tool cabinet with wide drawers, I would like to organize couple of these drawers with that foam that I think you cut to fit. Some of tools in couple of these drawers is mics, dial indicators, precisions squares, etc. I like a cutout spot for each so that I can tell if that tool went MIA on me. I did research foam that is called Kaizen in 1" thick which Rockler sells it but I have never seen or felt it so don't know if this would be the right type of foam. What type of foam has others use that work out well for you? What would you recommend, and what about tool to cut it? Guessing a razor blade would work for this. Thanks for any suggestions

Kaisen works well. Pretty dense but cuts easily and will keep your stuff in place. I used it on more drawers than I could count...big tools, little tools, you name it. All our boxes in the AF needed to be foamed for accountability. I generally just cut it with Xacto knives.

Kaizen foam and a razor knife are the most popular options. You can route it with a router or CNC mill if you want to get fancy.

Another cheapish alternative is foam floor tiles.

Lots of more expensive options out there also, like this.

I watched a video of a guy who had 2 layers of foam, and he used one layer as a base layer (no cutting) and then cut the other layer out with a jigsaw and then glued the 2 layers together. Seemed easier than cutting one thick piece of foam out with a razor knife, although I've never tried either method.

Cheap foam flooring mats are the same material for about 1/10 of the cost. They are only 1/2" thick so if you need thicker you will be layering.
