Tool for inner dual

The first time I had a flat on the inside dual tire I was unable to remove the wheel so I drove on to a truck stop where two guys pulled while a third beat the hell out of the rim from the inside. After that I built my own three jaw puller to do the job and left it in the truck. I doubt the standard practice is what was done at that truck stop. What is the standard tool for this?

I've only seen them beat the heck out of it till it released. Used to work at a truck tire shop in The Bronx when I was a kid. Sledge hammers were well used there.

big-*** hammer or if you like to live dangerously, loosen but leave the lug nuts on the threads with 1/2" between the nut face and the wheel, put the truck back on the ground and drive it around a parking lot for a bit to break the wheel loose.

Beat, heat, beat some more and spray a little penetrating oil on there once in a while.........................


And before you put it back on, clean all of the rust from the hub mounting surface and never seize the **** out of it.

Ken-Tool has a dual wheel separator. Dont have it but its advertised quite a bit in the tool catalogs and flyers from parts stores up here.

1 ton dually's are the worst. Standard farm practice is loosen the nuts and drive around a bit forward and reverse or drive the inner dual up up on a block of wood and use a big sledge

Wheel pullers exist. The crafty may use a combination of chains and hydraulic rams. Unfortunately standard practice is to best it with a sledge.

That's hard to believe. It took all of 20 minutes to make a tool that works in seconds. Just a simple mod to an existing tool. Why wouldn't professionals do it the easy way?

That Ken-Tool works well we had one at the dealer I worked at. For big trucks
Kiene diesel makes a interesting puller.

I’m just curious cause I don’t think its been asked, how big of a truck is this?

My f350 dually wheels always came right off...

Dodge 3500.
Ford changed to hub centric in the mid 80s. If yours is hub centric and comes off easily, you may have a problem. Are we talking about the inner wheel?

Same problem with my Ford F53 motor home. I got them off in the driveway with a small hyd. jack. Then a bit of antisieze on a cleaned up hub and they are good to go for a couple of years.

Yes inner wheel. Never needed more than a kick to get them off. It’s a 95 f350 dually.
