Yeah, so I'm a sucker for the odd or interesting tool. I picked up these oddball pliers at a fleamarket last weekend for cheap, along with a few other bits. I did not know what they were, but they just seemed to be odd and unusual enough to grab my attention.

I did a google search on the name + model number, but got nothing helpful about this particular model. FYI, these are Diamond brand pliers, model KC-18.

So, I searched for the patent number (2,677,982) and BINGO!

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/2677982.pdf

Interesting that the patent document shows that it was licensed to The American Hardware Corp of New Britain,CT but the tool was made by Diamond in Duluth, MN.

These pliers are in good shape, but have some owner's grind marks- 6 on one handle and 7 on the other. I don't know if I'll ever have a real need for them, but they are just really cool to me.

(sorry for the **** pic- it's a camera phone pic)

You mean something like these:

Not a ratchet but this pair of New Britain hose clamp pliers are as close to premo as one can get. A recent acquisition that arrived in Elroy possession covered in permatex.

Elroy should have snapped a few "before" shots as they sure cleaned up nice. At two bucks Elroy is a happy boy. Took about an hour to clean off all the **** off.

These pliers are for use on "corbin" clamps which are made from wire. You know, the kind of hose clamps typical on older Mopars.

They work very well and will perform satisfactorily on other styles of clamps as well. Congratulation on a fine addition to your tool collection.

Being a Mopar guy, I HATE those damn Corbin clamps. Every old Mopar I ever got, I replaced those damn things with worm drive hose clamps. I would LOVED to have had a set of those pliers to help me when I was younger. Maybe I wouldn't have hated the clamps so much.

I grew up in a Mopar house, dad worked at the Chelsea Proving Grounds and I inheritted some of those pliers from him.

I have the exact opposite feeling on the clamps. The worms seem like a PITA.

Funny how the availability of a tool can influence a persons opinion of a design.
