Do you have a Northern Tool or Tractor Supply around you?

I have a large set of torx bits and I know I got them from a walk in store. Don't remember which, but I only go to Northern Tool, TSC, and Lowes. So I would bet you could find some in one of those.

DUnno if you want to spend the $$ but I got mine off the S/O truck - comes in handy for electronics work, like taking cell phones or Camera's apart .

Try Radio Shack or look for an electronics parts supplier near you. I have a Fry's Electronics by me and they have all kinds of small screwdriver type tools (torx, hex, etc.). I think they do mail order too.

You don't need to spend a fortune for small torx bits. Small screws usually aren't torqued to 100ft-lb so you don't need high quality tools. I'd rather strip the tool than such a small screw. It would be a PITA to extract.

How about these? $30NZ

T6337_0_med_v1_m56577569835169531.JPG

Cat#: DSNZ_T6337 - DSE 30 Piece Compact Mini Bit Set

Bits Include:
- Flat blade : 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0mm
- Philips head : Nos 000, 00, 0, and 1
- Torx style : T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T15, and T20
- Hex style : 0.7, 0.9, 1.3, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 4.0mm
Heck, I think from memory, it even comes in its own case!

Reality is that tool places may not have much in the way of these, they're too darn small! Electronic / PC shops will stock more of these...

Lowes sells that exact same one, only it's branded Kobalt. Like the Husky, it's about 6 bucks.

If you do a google image search for "Mini bit set", it comes up with a lot of hits... click on one that looks the biz and go from there.

If you're trying to remove a small screw from an electronic device, go ahead and get the screwdrivers for the tamper-proof screws and avoid the headache. Also, the bit sets may not have the reach to get into the small holes the screws are probably recessed in. And if you for some reason decide to get the bit set from Harbor Freight, check all the hole locations in the bits to make sure they're actually centered.

Been there, done that. :)

True actually, some of them recessed holes can be a pain in the **** - any more than a few centimetres you're better of with a screwdriver, but then the length can also be a problem... get both! :bounce:

Most of the sets I've seen on this thread though are normal bit sets - the one I posted isn, it's for smaller screws... Ooh, found another one, at $16NZ:

(If this thread is still up an running and the pic disappears, I'll relink with a photobucket one)

Surely there must be some of these in the states somewhere? Taiwan make shedloads of these, some of them have to get to the states... :bounce:

I have several sets in many configurations. They all failed me when I ran into some 5-sided Torx type screws the other day. :( Now I am looking for those. I hate not having the right driver.

5 sided torx? You mean pentalobe?:headscrat

Got pics?

edit: what I came here for is that in the Tools form the Old World thread, page 187 (if 40 posts a page), post number 7477, there isa nice looking Athlet set with torx from T5 - T20. Might be worth a look - from memory they are also Taiwanese in manufacture (if the angled bit holder is anything to go by), but from a German company... warning though, the guy bought a lot of gear and took a lot of pics!

Pentalobe would be correct and no pics. The shape was just like a 5 lobe Torx fastener. I figure it was just another security screw someone was using. It had the center pin also like a security Torx.
