Tool hanging systems?

Hi all,
Found the site and joined the forum to get expert advice from folks like you.
I don't do any mechanical work, (though I really admire those of you who do!) mostly woodworking and general home maintenance, etc.

I'm renovating a 100 year-old, detached, 18x18, two-car garage at my house. (Will post some pics soon.) It's got cement walls and relatively low beams. I've added wood carriage doors, a new roof, and a great cupola and weathervane. :)

I'm looking for a solution to hang hand tools. I'm thinking of either building a wood wall cabinet with double doors with tool hangers, or simply hanging all the tools against the wall without a cabinet on plywood with nails, etc.

However, I'm no fan of peg board. Had it on our garage wall as a kid, and I just remember the hangars constantly popping out, and not being very secure in hanging tools. More an annoyance than a convenience.

Can anyone recommend a nicer tool hanging system than your typical peg board, or a way to improve the way pegboard hangers work? Photos and links would be greatly valued.

Thanks!

Barry

There are pegboard hooks that use screws to secure the hangars so that they don't move or come out when you use them. You can even adapt them to use with plywood -- in this picture I've used them with aluminum over plywood.

You can get them from McMaster-Carr
