I was doing a search for tools (wanting to put a little tool box on the boat for weekend repairs) and happened upon an old post on Harry J. Epstein. I googled the location and found out it's not far from my work (1/2 mile!). I had to go in during my lunch hour and take a look around and get a catalog. Very cool place -- old building, wood floors, transported back to old general store about 75 years ago. (Remarkable for me to remember . . . I remember the days before WalMart was everywhere. I remember TG&Y stores, Ben Franklin's, and the little guy hardware stores . . . and I'm only 35!)

Anyway, I know they're online, so take a look around. I wish they had photos of the store and history behind the place online or printed. It would be an interesting read I'm sure. The wife said to cool it on the spending though, since we just got the boat, waverunner, dock slip rentals . . .etc. DOH!

I love ordering from them. Good quality stuff, great prices, and you actually talk to a person when you call.

I was inspired by your request and I did a photo shoot of the store today
and a brief history. You can check it out on our website:

Great story and pics. I mentioned the store to my father-in-law (who grew up in the area) and he had fond memories also. He had bought guns to sell back in the day (1960's) after getting back from the army's vacation plan to Korea. He's going to have to take a trip down memory lane again soon. I'm pretty excited to buy some new tools, but my recent toy purchases (cabin cruiser, wave runner, slip rentals, etc....) are going to curtail that for a while. :)

Thanks for the update!

Just checked it out. Very cool! I like the hard-cover 2006 journal.
