Interesting that the slot in the top flange has notches that align with the ears on the legs. No idea what it means.

What do the sides with the legs look like?

coupler for a fire hose? :dunno:
Went digging on that, a little, and it looks like the couplers tended to being heavier/longer than that, but maybe a handle? Although you probably wouldn't want four-inch brass handles sticking out of a fire hose, that seems like a way to get a bone broken if someone loses their grip and it starts whipping around.

Fire hydrant... wrench? It looks a little like this. (I'm stuck on the fire fighting equipment idea because of the brass/bronze.)

^ "Hydrant wrenches" come in all shapes and sizes. It's a genre I've tried to avoid, but they do show up here now and then.

Good point, though, regarding "brass or bronze". What situations call for that? Fire hose? Irrigation systems? Pump systems? :headscrat

Hmm, that side view blows my guess of a 1/4 turn on off valve.

Puller handle for something thick but not too heavy perhaps?
