Hi Guys,

I got this tool with a set of parts drawers I got off a friend. I'm not sure exactly what it's for. It's got 2 outputs, one labelled 'Grind', the other 'Drill', and came with an assortment of shafts and grinding stones.
Anybody seen one or know what they're used for?

Though I've got a stack of my own bikes, not sure I'll use it myself. Might offer it to a friend that runs his own bike engineering shop. That's if he hasn't got one already.

I have owned a few seat grinder tools over the years, but that is the first two-speed drive I have seen.

Nice. I'm with Steevo; never saw one setup like that. It has a cool factor an ordinary power grinders doesn't...

It was ok in its day,probably 50+ years old.Pretty much garage art.Needs a lot of refurbish to make it serviceable.Some parts will no longer be made.The price was good.See what you can get for offers?

Cool, at least it's got interest, eh! Inside a cover on the tool there's two new brushes, so that might be an indication of little use... or lack of maintenance. Ha ha.
If I still lived in Canada, I'd put it up for sale here on the Journal, but I'm in Australia now so freight would be a *****.
A friend of mine who runs his own bike engineering business may have a use for it. He builds JAP v-twin engines from scratch, Norton Manx front 4LS brakes, among other things. At the moment he gets the JAP valve seats done somewhere else, but he does a lot of engine work so this might be something he could use. I'll take it around to his place and let him have a look at it.

Sweet, I'd use it in a pinch. Would be great for bikes if you can get the smaller stones.

It is very similar in a number of ways to USA Black&Decker, also sold by Snap on. Searching B7D will give you a good idea how everything works, and if you are luck the fairly readily available parts may fit.
Yours has drive hex on motor and on that extension...the extension is for engines with integral head and cylinder, including a lot of WWII radial aircraft as well as some autos.
On the issue of wear...if the pieces that hold the stones are good and the guide shafts are good, you have good precision. The motor just spins the parts...stones are cut to correct angles and resharpened in a jig that allows them to spin against a diamond, you can likely by one that fits from Goodson machine supplies.
