I've inherited a Kennedy tool chest and Pressteel rollaway with an array of tools from my grandfather, who was an aircraft machinist with Lockheed in the 40s and 50s. But he's long passed away and we never had a chance to talk much about his tools.

So I've inventoried everything I've got and looked up all that I could, but have a few pieces that I don't know either the manufacturer or the purpose of the tool. The ones that I'm looking for help with are pictured here:

Feel free to comment on the photos or here.

I'm also making albums of hand-fabricated tools and modified factory-made tools. Lots of those -- elongated wrenches and things like that -- and may post those links as well.

I'm guessing he was an aircraft mechanic or worked in aerospace.

These are counter bore/countersink cutters.

Thanks! I remember now looking up the fastener tool -- I guess they used the DZUS on aircraft. I know that he spent a lot of time with T-33s and F-94s.

Hey, folks.

There are still some items pictured at the link above.

Also, here are some hand-crafted items. Some are just punches and others may be little jigs or something, but I really have no idea what most were specifically used for. I'd love any insights from folks out there.

Oh, and let me know if you want additional photos of anything.

The brass item with threads in each end and a cross hole is the barrel of an aircraft control cable turnbuckle. It was used to adjust the tension and rigging of aircraft control cables.

The drill bit with a hex shank mounted to a squared block is an aircraft 1/4-28 shank threaded drill bit screwed into what is probably a shop-made block. Perhaps it was mounted into a tool holder on a small lathe.

The steel block with cross grooves is a jaw from a small vise, perhaps even a hand-held vise. The grooves help locate round parts.

Interesting. I never knew him to have or have had a motorcycle, but who knows? Or perhaps there was a bike at the plant that he used or had a occasion to service?

Thanks!

Oh, and do you think the spoke wrench is hand fabricated? I haven't seen anything online that looks just like it. and it doesn't have any factory markings or so that I can see (just his initials).
