wait, what's better PBlaster or Kroil? Or are they the same.

I've never had much luck with PB Blaster

This has been floating around the web since April 2007. I don't have a link to the original article.

Machinist's Workshop magazine actually tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts. Significant results! They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional machinist, Bud Baker.
Don't forget the April 2007 "Machinist's Workshop" magazine comparison
test.

*They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants with
the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a
"scientifically rusted" environment.

*Penetrating oil ..... Average load*

None ..................... 516 pounds
WD-40 .................. 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............. 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds

*The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic transmission
fluid and acetone.*
*Note the "home brew" was better than any commercial product in this one
particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now
use it with equally good results. Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about
as good as "Kroil" for about 20% of the price.

I buy whatever is on sale usually (mostly gallons of WD when they go on sale) but I also can get Knock'er Loose pretty cheap and It works great! (Made by CRC I think)

Funny that plain old Liquid Wrench works about the same as the Kroil that everyone seems to swear by.

If I had some really rusted nuts, I would probably go buy the CRC or Wurth freeze spray. I'll bet that is the way to go.

That's awesome thanks!

I'm very surprised by these results, WD-40 and PB Blaster are not too much different in this test.

I always thought that PB Blaster was supposed to be one of the best, but apparently I should be getting some Liquid Wrench instead, or
I think I'm going to go mix up some 50/50 ATF and Acetone since it reduced the torque needed down to 10% of dry. That's incredible!

There's more to a penetrating lube than just the torque required to remove a rusty nut.

They have to be able to penetrate into the joint. Kroil does a far better job than PB Blaster, IMO. WD40 is a joke when it comes to getting into a crusty joint.

How do you do a standardized test on rusty nuts and bolts anyhow? You can't tell how much corrosion is in one connection vs. another.

Rost off, HHS2000, Kroil, and best smelling Marvel Mystery Oil.

Worst smelling, can of environmentally nice soybean stuff, wow does it stink, and not a good stink either.
