Here is an interesting history link http://www.alloy-artifacts.com/

Williams tools - Some are still made in the USA - at least the sockets and ratchets. Been a long road from Buffalo NY. Was definitely a tool you could beat the stuffing out off. If you have an industrial supplier around your area that carries them they will warranty your old stuff.

Cooper Industries - a big disappointment - most lines made in China except maybe for the Crescent adjustable wrenches???

Vise Grips- another disappointment- China

Bought a NAPA metric impact socket set made in the USA at a swap meet past weekend the socket rails said Armstrong??

Most of Wera's products are manufactured in the Czech Republic.

You also may want to add India, Italy, and Great Britian to the countries listed under Ingersoll Rand.

Kraeuter (older tools are marked Newark, NJ) became S-K.

-Toolmaven

Anyone have proof/evidence of this? SK was around since the 20's, and my father bought Kraeuter in the late 50's early 60's and shortly there after, they were no more.

EDIT: Found the link/answer over at Alloy artifacts. Unfortunately, sockets and ratchets, NOT pliers. (trying to find the Kraeuter needle nose my father has/had (he lost), closest I have found is some 7" crescent)

bermuda company ? hell , they are just trying to save their shareholders money from our neosocialist congress
I applaude them

The reason Stanley tried to go "overseas" is to keep from being double taxed. Stanley pays taxes on the things they sell in the States. They pay taxes in the overseas countries they sell tools in. Then the US gov'ment wants them to pay taxes on the money they bring back from overseas. They get taxedtwice. By going "offshore" they were trying to bypass that tax and be competative. European countries that sell here are taxed here but not when they take the money home. Thus more profit for them.

I have a few bluegrass tools--- which I couldn't pass up because of the name!!! (major bluegrass fan!!) I have been wondering about them, considering born in 1977-- don't remember ever seeing them in a hardware store!! What's the story on them? Were they considered high quality in their time? Thanks, bird---- new to the site and LOVE IT!!

Hi there, I'm new to this, so bare with me. I read the pages on tool manufactures and may have missed this; does anyone know what "STW" tools are? I have a set of sockets, standard, 12pt, with just the size and "STW" on them. The sockets are HEAVY (in weight). I've not been able to find anyone who knows about this set. ... would LOVE any input or info! cheers, bird

I'm finding every comment I've made is showing up at the bottom of the page, rather then having the email next to whatever quote I was referring to. Is this because I always hit "quick reply rather than post reply? Hmmm, will remain a mystery unless someone can help me understand what I'm doing wrong. Cheers, Bird

You might want to consider adding Cruso to the list, introduced in 1902 by the Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. hardware store in Chicago.
