I recently bought a 15 piece Snap On punch and chisel set, and to be quite honest, I am worried about them growing legs and walking off. I thought about engraving, but dont really want handwritten markings in my tools. Is there a way I can stamp my initials into them? I figured a stamp would be just as hard as a chisel, and I don't want to waste my time pounding two rocks of equal hardness together. What do you all think I should do? I also have a set of Craftsman punches I plan on letting people borrow if they ask.

when i used to mark my tools for work I would use a 1/8 drill bit. drill maybe 1/16th deep and fill with bright paint.
Not too ugly but hard to grind away without mangling the tool.

You can electrochemical etch your tool. You can get a basic chem etch kit for $80 from this company. I bought one and it work pretty well. It is alot better than engraving. You can do a shallow etch or deep etch.

You can stamp them with letter or number stamps but you need to spend the money on them and get good ones not the cheap imports. I use to stamp a lot of my tools when I was in larger shops and a I had less storage ability.

I used a 12 volt engraver that you clipped onto a car battery. Works real well. Got it years ago. Might be a Cal-Van tool.
