I'm still waiting for my "cart"... :shocking:

But I've spent some time making tool holders to go in it. Enjoy!

For the mini pick set, I had to use some foam to support the handles. The foam was black and made the translucent picks look diseased... Aluminium HVAC tape to the rescue :D

Yeah, they could be fabricated a bit cleaner but my tool OCD doesn't quite go that far... :)

I'll be using Ernest holders for the sockets (8 x 18" each for SAE and metric). Here's a pic of the SAE side:

I would seriously buy the plastic panel popper trays off of you if you could make one to go across my drawer of my box. Would need 2, maybe 3, as I have a lot of different plastic panel tools..

let me know if you might be interested..

thanks

Very nice, what did you use to cut the slots for the tools, a nibbler? I would be tempted to round the corners on the edges of the holders, looks like I would catch my finger and cut myself grabbing a tool quickly.

Angle grinder I'm guessing. Those scewdriver holders do look nice. Great idea! I'm going to have to think on how I can adapt that to my out of control screwdriver drawers.

Thanks everybody! Glad you like :D

nice job its time to take the polishing wheel to them

I'm more of a "brushed look" kinda guy. Besides, these things are taking enough time as it is... :)

Wish I had a nibbler... Angle grinder is closer. Drilled holes of the width of each tool and then cut out the slots with a Dremel. I sanded the corners so they aren't sharp.

nice !!  How much you charge for the hook + pick holder ? :D :bounce:

Sorry, don't have quite that much free time... Plus I wouldn't want to deprive you guys of all the fun. They are cheap and easy to make. 1" aluminium angle, thin aluminium plate, and some 1/8" alum. rivets. I splurged on the plate since I didn't want to use galvanized steel because it would rust at the edges and rivets. This way, there's nothing that can rust.

Laying the stuff out takes longer than making the holders... Would be even faster if I had a drill press or, at least, if my Dewalt XPR wouldn't wobble like a SOB. I've been drilling the holes with a dull quick change bit in the little Hitachi impact driver...

zuspiel, I have teutonic OCD organizational tendencies but don't have the follow through of a true native German.... :) Would you mind taking pics or showing them with your holders in "context" in your drawers? I would like to see how you place them in your drawers and also would like to see how you have your Ernst organizers set up as well! :) Not quite pure German/American asking for more info; inquiring minds want to know! :)

Very nice work there. I'm a tool neat freak and those holders would find a happy home in my toolbox. I have the alum plate and rivets. I'll pick up some alum angle and be ready to organise my next purchase. Hope they turn out as nice as yours!!

Thanks for the idea.

Great stuff. I just picked up the hooks and picks for $16 on Amazon (they went back down from $24).

I think I'm going with Hansens too. Though I do like the Mechanics Timesavers -- the urethane or rubber ones. Not as many options for sockets (from what I could tell), but still nice and solid.

If I made tool holders like those, I would need two to three times the box space I already have!

Darn! I got suckered into paying the higher price a few months ago. I do observe that the set I bought was the 7681, vs the 7680 that's there now -- as best I can see, the only difference is that my set has a fabric holster for the tools. < sarcasm >I guess that's worth $9, even though I prefer to just put my tools directly in the drawer of my tool chest.< /sarcasm >

Ok, here's another try...

Thanks again, guys!

I'm sure if you make your own, they'll come out even nicer than mine! Go forth and organize! :bounce:

The rivets on the bottom actually also help keep the holder in place in the drawer. Plus, the visible side looks a lot cleaner.

I got the alum angle from Lowes and I think I got a 7' section. That should be enough to make all the holders I have planned. HD probably has it, too.

I'm planning to make a few more: a big, intricate one for bit holders, ratcheting screwdrivers, shafts, and blades. Then two smaller ones for Torx drivers and bit ratchets. I don't think I'll make one for the nut drivers. I'll probably just put a "fence" around them...

The reason I didn't reply last night was that

My box arrived!!! :D :deathmeta :rocker: :pimpflash

Sorry, but it'll probably take a couple of weeks until it's fully "presentable". Last night I only put on the trim stuff and started shuffling drawers around. I'll post a little review of the box when I've tricked it all out and everything is in its place.

Welcome schloe!

I got a SO KRSC40A "cart" which will be my main box. Swapping drawers with a KRA4107 to get 2 x 2" and 6 x 4" drawers in it. Plus a side shelf. All in black. :D

The KRA will be secondary with 3 x 4" and 2 x 8" drawers for bulkier stuff.

So far no problems with the trim remover thingies. I've used them a few times, they haven't broken and haven't marred any trim... I don't install car stereos for a living, though. The ends are nice and thin and slide in quite easily. Plenty of leverage for the stuff I've encountered. Price is half way reasonable, too (unless you compare them with a screwdriver or spatula :)). Now I just need a magic clip detector that reveals at a glance where the stupid clips and hooks are... :D
