Tool Panel ID - MAC? Smith? Other?

Found this at a yard sale last week for $15. Bought it because I thought it might be useful for storing gear pullers and press adapters.

Needs a little bodywork on 3 small dents, stickers removed and a fresh coat of paint, otherwise decent shape, 18GA construction and old enough that I doubt it's an import. Plus, the pegboard hooks are good old-fashioned ones that actually lock and stay in place on the board. No obvious manufacturer markings. Two MAC stickers and a Smith Pipe & Metals decal. The decal could be original, but I've never heard of any tool storage units by that name. For color comparison, that's Snap-On red behind it.

17" W (34" open) x 26" H x 4" D (2" open)

Assuming it's a wall cabinet, not a side cabinet for a roller chest. No factory mounting holes in the back, only some that were obviously user-drilled on 16" centers for wall mounting.

That is cool, especially with the rounded corner. Did you check it over closely for any maker stampings? Mac, matco and snap on all had paint fade issues back in the day that ended up being more of an orange color. I don't think it is a snap on though.

What does the little decal say Smith? I almost wonder if it is a transport type case that someone re purposed into a wall cabinet.

It says "Smith Pipe & Steel" and sort of looks to me like it belongs there, so it may not a user add-on like the three stickers are.

I went over the rest of it with a fine-toothed comb. No markings, stampings or engravings whatsoever, not even a maker's name on the lock (and no key included of course).

I don't think Snap-On ever made anything that style. Only guessed MAC because of the stickers, and I don't know MAC stuff at all, because we could never get a MAC dealer to come to the shop. Heck, we couldn't even find a MAC dealer to ask to come to the shop.

I'd agree with the transport case idea except that there's no carrying handle, and no holes where there ever would have been one attached. There are five user-drilled holes in the back. I can tell they're user-drilled because they've all got burrs and bare metal in the holes.

looks like a couple toolbox lids to me. the sizing sounds right. rounded top, like a craftsman, waterloo, old husky, etc....

Except that the bottom--or back--one doesn't have rounded corners, and the piano hinge and threaded standoffs for the pegboard are all very neatly spot-welded to the cabinet halves.

Ah, OK that is what I couldn't determine from the original post. In that case I agree it is not a transport case. Can you take an up close picture of the smith emblem?
