Tool Rolls don't provide fast access like a wall hanging setup or a drawer in a chest, but IMNSHO they are the best way to carry tools in a car. The tools are in a compact bundle and won't rattle either.

I'll post the first pic (either the best or the 2nd best tool roll)...

I've got 2 or 3. Handy to have when I'm outfitting for a specific activity (wife has horses and a carriage) but I've never found "the solution".

We had one of these not to long ago... i ride a Harley that is over 30 years old so i always carry a tool roll. As for that atlas46 link.. everything is "tactical" these days...

I agree with you ralf. I don't use them in my toolboxes at home but they definitely have a place in the road box I carry in my car. It's frustrating having to weed through a box of tools to get to the one wrench you need that's found it's way to the bottom of the box.

Tekton's tool rolls are very basic, but stout, thick, well made and work great. All you have to do is roll them up and they stay closed due to velcro sewn onto roll. For travel toolboxes, I don't like the ones with straps & buckles, or even those squeeze clips; just more of a hassle to get in & out of. They're not backpacks for Pete's sake. Unless you need them to be tactically ready for expeditionary deployments.

Even better, the Tekton's were only $11

Tool rolls are nice for wrenches, although with sets, they just give you a wrench roll that only has pockets for the set, so if you want to add additional sizes later, you need to purchase a new larger tool roll.

Cotton and fabric tool tool rolls are nice, especially since you can toss them in the wash if they get dirty, but fabric, and especially cotton, Tends to attract moisture in humid areas, and the moist tool toll right next to bare steel tools can cause rust to form quickly.

Also, commercial general purpose tool rolls never have pockets the right size.

I make my own tool rolls, whip 'em out on a sewing machine using blue jeans from a thrift shop. The seriously wide load sizes work best, and are often the cheapest. Different weights of fabric, so be sure to get the heaviest.

Don't know how to sew? C'mon, it ain't rocket science.

I’ll be the guy that resurrects an old thread, but I’m really glad I found this one. I was scouring the inter webs for a good tool roll. I need 6 as I’m setting up my storage in Milwaukee pack outs to be portable. Atlas46 seemed the best, but for 600 bucks a big F-that to that idea. Who ever said Tekton was spot on. All the sizes I needed and got 6 for 90 bucks. Thank you Garage Journal peeps!

Tools rolls are a must have for chisels and other sharp things. keeps 'em sharp and protects my fingers. Thrift store leather jacket's are good material too for making your own rolls.

I keep seeing the Atlas46 adds. They look nice but spendy. I bought a similar item off of Amazon for about 1/5 the price for truck tool storage. On the bikes I carry a Cruz tool set which comes with a very nice roll. The zipped pockets on the Atlas style rolls are still better, though. Nothing slipping out of place.

I found a pencil roll that I use to hold all of my Wiha precision screwdrivers, as well as various tweezers, spudgers, etc. It's a good way for me to keep up with my precision tools, and the whole roll fits inside a larger (but still small) tool bag, which also holds pliers, full size screwdrivers, etc.
