Id say Craftsman Industrial for sockets (USA). I love my Craftsman raised panel wrenches, should be a few good USA sets floating around. Allen/Masterforce wrenches and sockets are a great value in USA tools. Next would be Blackhawk and SK. Craftsman and Mayhew both make decently priced punches. Masterforce picks are made by Pratt/Reed and are great (USA). Allen wrenches by Eklind are top notch and industry standard. Get the hex packs in individual wrenches and folding packs. Id say you can get all of the tools on your list at Menards for a fraction of what it would be off a tool truck. USA, lifetime warranty on the Masterforce stuff, just like Craftsman. What will you be working on if you dont mind me asking? Im an Industrial Mechanic myself.

Are you working in a non-automotive service shop? I am asking only because your list includes no metric sizes. If that is so, what industry will you be working in?

Thanks in advance.

Craftsman, husky, kobalt, Pittsburg, blue point, silver eagle, gear wrench, and any other Taiwan made tool will be comparable in price and function. Depending on your industry you may find Snap-on, OTC, Schley, etc.... may be your only source of certain tools.

good luck.

Pin punch is for roll pins. Don't think you will find a 3/8 drive socket set that will go up to a 1 1/2 socket, have to go up to 1/2 drive.
Do you have a $$$$ limit you wan't to stay under?
Iv'e spent thousands here over the years, great prices: http://www.tooltopia.com/

before any big purchases, go check out your local pawn shops. No telling what you might be able to find for dirt cheap. Remember to haggle. Never pay asking price!

Do you have to etch all your tools and had or them as we'll into a box? If so plan on spending a few hours and make it nice and it will pay out in the long run.

Ya may have to go to a name brand for the 12 point 1/4 drive sockets as they are not as common as 6 points. Also don't cheap out on roll pin punches, at the cheapest buy craftsman.

Craftsman has the 309 piece set on sale right now for $199.99. The 500+ peice set will be right at $1000.00. If you get the 309 you can fill in the rest you need. The 500+ may have it all.

richfinn has it. Starter punches are shorter and tapered to get the pin moving. Pin punches are straight and punch the pin all the way through once you get the pin moving. If you try to use a pin punch as a starter punch, you run the risk of breaking your pin punch.

Good luck finding 3/8" drive sockets up to 1 1/2" sized....oh yeah, and the 1/8" won't be much easier......
Looks to me like that list was made up by some manager who never actually worked with tools.

Wow, agreed; they are whacked on the sockets list!

3/8 goes from 1/4 to 7/8; you MIGHT find larger, but with difficulty, and I doubt anyone makes them up to 1-1/2 in 3/8. Heck 1-1/2 will be hard to find in 1/2 drive! For that you are looking at 3/4 drive.

I've never seen a 1/8" socket. not sure I've seen one even in a nut-driver (Smallest I have is 3/16)

1/4" drive goes down to 3/16, and up to 9/16

Make sure they didn't give you a "Rookie's Scavenger Hunt"

i have 3/8" dr 1/4" to 1",
1/2" dr to 1 1/2

1/8" socket may be a problem, i've never seen one, but i do have a real1/8" comb wrench (not an ign type wrench) around someplace.

take your pick on brands
(unless your buying tools at the dollar store)

CM, gearwrench, kobalt, ect ect.

Taper punches for aligning stuff that doesn't want to & a selection of bolts from AN3 to AN20 with the threads ground off & tapered for the same purpose.

My 3/8 drive shallow set runs 1/4 to 7/8 with 11/32 included.

Smaller than 1/4 size I'd want 1/4 drive and anything larger than 7/8 size I'd want 1/2 drive.

I have trouble figuring out what a 1/8" socket would be used for too.

What kind of a/c will you be hammering on ? Mostly, I would stick

to C'man, Kobalt, or Gear Wrench since they are all pretty much the

same in quality and price. I believe that they all have similar life time

waranties on any manual tools no matter whether used for home or

professionally. I never broke a tool working on any airplane in over

20 years, but sometimes I wished I had an extra hand or two...

Good luck hunting for your tool kit.

It's a lot of legal responsibility for what you get paid. They only pay you $12 an hour and if the plane goes down and somebody dies, it's your fault.

Um, no. It sounds like someone confused a starter and drift. Only the person who wrote the spec can define it. "Wanna work here? You gotta spend your money on this stuff to support our quest for profit." Good idea? Only you can make the call. I suggest you get your employer to be specific about details. Or just belly up to the bar and buy their tools.

Don't go cheap on your punches and picks. You will just have to be buying new ones in no time flat.
