How do you guys store things like masonry trowels, joint knives, mud boxes and the like. Some of my finishing trowels are 10+ inches, and they take up a lot of space in a traditional rollaway tool chest. Any ideas?

I've never seen anyone store them in anything other than 5 gallon buckets

Trowels I hang on the wall. I got the idea at Waffle House. Over the grill, they have a metal plate spaced off the back wall by about 3/4". Their spatulas slide between the metal plate and the back wall, but get hung on the handle. I did the same thing, but built it out a piece of scrap 1x6. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Totes on shelves in the basement. One is nothing but drywall tools and supplies. The OP didn't say what his situation was, but I'm coming from the perspective of someone who does drywall maybe once every 3 years. Same for painting supplies (brushes, rollers, drop cloths, etc.) and other homeowner stuff.

I think the best answer really depends on how often you do drywall but I can't think of any reason to keep them in a roller.

All of our paint/drywall tools are in totes or 5g buckets.

The buckets keep the tape knives from cutting into drop clothes, roller covers, etc.

The roller cabinet holds tools used frequently enough that they need to be put back to stay organized.
