Going to the Austin area for work and will be free on the weekend any suggested spots to go to for tools for us Canucks?

I'd rather buy from a local place then buying on Amazon and shipping to a neighborhood box.

TIA

PS Any restaurant or other attraction suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm in Austin. I am not really aware of any good tool stores in the area to visit. We have Northern Tool stores north and south. We also have Harbor Freight with north and south locations, if you would be interested in browsing their selections. Restaurants here are plentiful and good. A lot depends on where you are staying in the city.

I lived in Austin in the 1990 era. It was a tool desert. Now I live in Phoenix which is in the desert and is also a tool desert. If you want tool stores you need to go to the Midwest or the East. Any newer city like Austin or Phoenix is Home Depot, Harbor Freight and Lowes and that's about it.

Woodcraft of Austin is a pretty neat alternative tool store.
Mostly geared towards woodworking (duh) but something that anyone into tools will enjoy just walking around for a bit and checking out all the cool stuff.
Also recommend going into the back room and checking out the neat special woods they sell.

If you like spicy stuff, make sure to go to Taco Deli for some Mexican.
But the real reason to go is to get a bag of chips and some of their famous "green sauce".
The first two or three chips you're going to think the sauce tastes like ****.
But by the fourth chip, you've quickly adjusted your palette and are now permanently hooked on the green sauce.

If you want to live it up a bit, check if Austin City Limits may have a Marcia Ball event.
One of the absolutely best boogie woogie pianists and her sidemen are all the best Nawlins studio musicians
Check out her Louella or the entire Presumed Innocent album.

Also, good luck with finding tools. Probably more busted pianos, keyboards, guitars than lathes.

Take advantage of Harbor Freight. We don't have it in Canada. Icon branded tools. Apache branded cases. Badland winches. Pittsburgh jacks.

Maybe Texas Tool Traders on Ben White...

I haven't been in, but I drive by it frequently.

We also have a Rockler store in addition to the previously mentioned Woodcraft.

Other that that and the HF and Northern tool...pretty much nothing.
