Unfortunate downside of working in a two car garage that actually has two cars in it each night, no room to leave stuff out.
An article of faith I've always held is that garages are there to hold vehicles, not the 'stuff' that will not fit in the house. I've seen garages that looked like the homeowners had won a game of 3-D Tetris in them!

Moving the cars out temporarily to use the garage as a shop is an acceptable use of the space.

Yeah, it's just not ideal...I'm not a junk collector and am very well organized, so it works...but I'd love to have a dedicated space for working on stuff. There are tools that I could have stationary rather than having to put away each day.

No criticism implied. We have to work with what we have. Success to you and I hope you get that dedicated space someday soon!

I hope so too, but probably won't be for 10+ years at this point if I can buy more property. In the meantime I'm going to add some space in the basement when I finish it, a second "light duty" workshop for electronics and tinkering that doesn't involve wood/metal work. Plus some storage space so I have room for some of the less used tools.

Alsooo, it's Tool Test Tuesday again! I did the Gearwrench Roto Ratchets this week:

Tool Test Tuesday again...another DeWalt tool in their newer atomic line up, the 20v brushless drill:

It was actually better than expected, especially for the price.

Sooo, umm, it goes up to 37 + . Awesome! (y) :)

The vid was worth watching just for the laugh.

How about using it on a shopvac and comparing the reading to the manufacturers stated cfm?

Interesting thought...I have a ridgid and the little dewalt 2 gallon cordless, I'll see if it works later today.

New Tool Test Tuesday on those damaged bolt removers @Odd-job was interested in:

Decided to try a more condensed format than my previous ones, let me know what you think.

What is the price of these ratcheting bolt removers?
They were $70 regular price, but if you know Canadian Tire (where Mastercraft is sold), everything goes on sale for 50% off or more. I believe I paid $29.99 for these many years ago.

Haven't done much tool testing lately, but going to hopefully film a really big grinder comparison tomorrow and maybe some inappropriate welding (steel to aluminum lol).

In the meantime, here's some thermal camera imaging of some power tools:

Not a tuesday, but close enough :)

I did film the grinder one and it's got some interesting info.

If you haven't seen the welding one, go watch, it was awesome.

Thanks for sharing. If I had seen this video before buying an abrasive saw I would have not bought the abrasive saw in the first place.

Welcome!

It really does highlight the difference between the two. The wheel on my abrasive is a bit worn though, so I imagine a fresh wheel would knock maybe 5-10 seconds off the cut, but it's still drastically different and the cut quality, temp, and clean up is worth it alone.

The only advantage to abrasive is if the metal is dirty or hardened, it can still work (and it's cheaper lol).

Here's the latest, the 60v circular saw from Dewalt:

I tell ya what, there's nothing about this saw that makes me miss a corded one. I got it because I was going to an off grid cottage and had to build a few things including a set of stairs. Used it to cut stringers and treads out of PT 2x10's and it shrugged it off like nothing.

Use these from time to time. Wish they could figure out a way to put a female drive end so you can stick a ratchet on the end.

A female anvil receiver on the end of the handle, so you would have additional leverage. Like a wrench on a square shafted screwdriver.

Oh...weird. Why wouldn't you just use a regular ratchet/extension/bit/socket at that point?

^ Only if I was smart enough to predict my future tool using desires. I use the super long extension with a Koken nut grip socket on the end. Often times I use it to start a bolt or nut and then realize hand ratcheting is tedious or need slightly more torque (because I was too lazy to properly clean the bolt) and think it would be nice to spin it down with my trusty m12 ratchet. By then I usually get too lazy to grab another extension and socket, end up biting the bullet, and ratchet it down with the handle or in some cases have used a pair of cobra pliers on the knurling to get slightly more torque on the fastener.

This Grey Pneumatic comes close, but is short and lacks the ratcheting functionality (although am not sure if impacting and ratcheting would work together).

I have no idea! I do like screwdrivers with a hex head so you can twist it with a wrench, which is less destructive then putting vise grips on the handle, like I’ve been known to do. I guess if you only have a ratcheting screw driver and a ratchet on you it would come in handy. Seems to be a trend, but i think for marketing more than function.

It's not quite Tuesday, but I finally got my hands on a cordless ratchet for the first time:

Compared to my air powered ones, it does pretty good actually!

Fun one for you guys today, I would wager most of you have seen all these tools before (given we're the most studious types around here):

Also, I sent one of the tools to Torque Test Channel for testing, so they have a video of it giving the beans out today :) so check that out too!

Many thanks. I'm curious in those double ratcheting bolt removal tools in the oh $hit drawer/first pic.

Also a to point video on the various use case scenarios of some of the specialty locking pliers would be nice. Maybe I need to expand my locking plier capabilities? This will help address the too many pliers comment from Kelpaso, although I am pretty sure there is no such thing here on GJ.

Generally also always interested in creative uses of tools that I never thought about. For example I have a set of of those Channel Lock oil filter pliers now in the kitchen for the spouse to loose overtightened jar caps rather than nagging me.
Haha...I bought a second pair of cobra 400's for missy in the kitchen too. No more fear of evil jar lids.

If anyone has ever wondered what's the deal with all the Dewalt batteries, look no further:
