yeah, I know this is petty, but i'll ask it anyhow.
and yes its also 2 weeks after the fact, but It still burns my biscuits.
and it was only a matter of 3 bucks, but it's the principal.

I've been putting off getting a seal puller for way to long. lately I've been making a list of stuff I don't need right this minute but I will in the future.

I aint gonna put down any tool truck brand and that's not the point.
it's about the guy.
I bought the tool for about 11 bucks. a week later he was handing out the new brochure and the same tool was on sale for 8 bucks.

now I aint a cheap ***(maybe I am) but I think a cool tool truck guy might tell me to wait for a week or 2 to save a couple bucks.

I guess what i'm asking is how long in advance do the truck guys have the new catalogs ?and do they care?

'cause I don't anymore

I didn't say it was snap on. it wasn't.
I didn't want to call out any brand. that wasn't my point.
but i'm sure that all the guys that work in a shop and read the monthly tool truck flyers for feb will know that a LYSLE seal puller is 3 bucks cheaper than usual.

I doubt he knew about it a week in advance. Companies printing special price flyers have a hard enough time keeping that info out of their competition's hands right up to the time the flyers are being delivered than to pass that kind of info out that far ahead of time.

Look at computers and digital equipment. It depreciates monthly. You have to look at it like it was worth $11 to you when you laid the cash down and so it will still do that job you bought it for for the next 10 years or more so you still get the value out of it that justified your buying it in the 1st place.

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule. I've seen next months flyer sitting in a drawer two weeks before it started, and I also haven't gotten them until the month was half over. :dunno:
I do know that the Lisle 56750 seal puller is $7.63 year round at tooltopia though.

I would assume that they know a month in advance so they can order the specials. I have had dealers let me know stuff will be on special and also give me the special a little early or late on occasion. He may not have remembered that the item was going to be on sale.

I'm not gonna lie. If I were him, I'd assume you were buying a seal puller because you needed a seal puller. You know, like right now.

If this were something like a hard line tool set and it was about to be on sale for $50 less, then I'd understand. But from the sounds of it you bought a Lisle tool, off a tool truck, and you paid a couple bucks over street price anywhere else. I'd call that a win, personally.

This happen to me and also a guy I work with.I bought the tap & die set for like 350 off the Matco truck then 2 weeks later she showed up with a new flyer and it was on sell for 250 so I just asked her nicely about it and she she had no problem giving me the 100 off of what I still owed. And same with the guy I work with he bought a metal seat creeper for 120 then it came on sale for 105 2 weeks later and she had no problem giving the 15 back.

Most of the time, if not all the time these guys have no idea what's in a flier till they get it. Scanners and tool boxes they have set promotions and build people up for them, but that is diff from the flier situation. If I bought something within a week of the flier coming out my snap on guy would absolutely make good on the difference. If the difference was small he might give me stickers for my daughter or a t shirt etc.

In the OP's case just a couple of bucks isn't worth stressing about. If it was a greater amount I am sure the driver wouldn't mind making good on the diff.

My seal puller is a HF. I didn't think I needed SO for that.

Only difference there is you can take your receipt in and have them refund the difference within a certain amount of time.

I know my old snappy man would know what the monthly "deals" would be for the whole year. He'd let us know some good deals on the big ticket items like a puller set and what not. We could save up for most of the year and be ready to buy when the time came.

My Snapon dealer usually knows what the specials are in advance. He tells me about them a lot. If I'm interested in something he tells me to wait. He usually has to order the stuff or have it sent in advance, so how could he not know? Another thing he does, if he doesn't sell stuff when it was on special, he will still give me the deal later. I have been with the same Snapon guy for almost 20 years so I think that helps. I guess all the money I give him doesn't go unnoticed.
Oh and to the OP, nice avatar. Motörhead rules!!!

If price is the most important thing to you when buying tools, you probably shouldn't be buying them off the truck, There are plenty of cheaper places to buy tools. Your paying for the convenience of him bringing you high quality tools to you every week to fondle , replacing broken things, and finding tools that you just don't have time to do. When I bought my tools the internet didn't exist, Even though I lived in on Long Island with 7.5 million people there was no place to buy quality tools, Sears had a great selection and parts houses mostly sold SK stuff, Only trucks sold the good tools. There were lots of trucks running around but if the driver wasn't a good guy he wouldn't last. If you like the driver Keep buying stuff from him, If not buy it wherever you can get it cheapest. My Snap-On driver was a great guy, I bought lots of tools, but also got a ton of free stuff and lots of great deals.

With thousands of products in his catalog or on his truck, do you seriously expect him to know that just one of the tools is going to drop 3 bucks in price? He probably didn't even know about the price drop or if he did, he probably wouldn't remember it.

Sometimes the SO guy knows about the bigger ticket items like impacts and socket sets, tool boxes and will let us know to hold off. Ive been burned a couple times on Cornwell flyers but he will generally credit you back or discount something else. I could of sworn he told me he has the flyers months in advance, but I doubt he has them memorized. With Cornwell I only buy off their monthly flyer anyways.

My snap on guy told me he wouldn't sell me the 3/8 impact for 3 more weeks so I could get the promotion for free dead blow hammers with it.

Said I could keep the loaner till then and all. I pay him a very large sum a week so he takes care of me. ~15% off almost everything I buy. Socks 2 for $10.

Since I know this was a cornwell dealer you were dealing with. No they do not know the up coming adds. I asked my dealer several times and he said they do not get the information till we do. However I know mac knows their sales before the year begins.

That promo is from the kick off, not the monthly flier. There's a difference, you should have had the chance to sign up for that limited quantity BOGO. My dealer is involved in that promo, but it's not a monthly promo, they had to buy into that deal.

yes,your right.
this truck and driver is kinda new to my area. he started coming around maybe late last summer or early fall, so I haven't even been dealing w/ him a year yet.
he's a nice guy and knows his tools.
its not about the 3 bucks. I just wonder if he might do that to me on a bigger ticket item that might be going on sale soon.

I just assumed that they got the flyers at least 2 or 3 weeks in advance so they could stock up on the sale/promotion items.

thanks for putting my mind at ease guys

Cornwell will mostly never not tell you about a deal if they dont know about it. I have never not had my cornwell guy let me know of a deal.
Plus my cornwell guy will work on prices he is flexible. But for 3 dollars is it worth it anyways. After tax it still comes close to 11.

When i got my snap on air hammer my snap on Guy made me wait till last week just so i could get the free bits. made me wait since Feb that was a 200 dollar saving. I wouldnt sweat 3

Snap on is a little different in that no one else sells their tools but more generic brands like lysle that a lot of people carry, sellers have to guard their prices. Heres an example that was pointed out on a recent thread in these 2 current flyers.

Titan 1/4" flex socket sets at 2 different retailers for a 15% difference in sale prices;

Pg 35 KMS Tools $24.95
http://www.kmstools.com/eflyer/#page35

and Pg 14 Princess Auto $29.95

http://images.palcdn.com/documents/event052014_en.pdf

Somebodies corporate spy probably got his *** kicked over this one.
