I spend a good amount of money on tools each year and I have 3 major factors that pop into my head when I am on the hunt and deciding on which tool to buy.
1.) Show up when you say you're going to show up. I don't like getting let down when i'm about to drop some money on a major purchase, and my tool guy flakes.
2.) Don't rush me. I like to hold/feel/look/inspect a tool before I purchase it. Especially when i'm paying cash and not going to carry a balance.
3.) The last Snap-On tool guy we had burnt me bad on a few smokin deals. Once I remember a sale going on that consisted of purchasing a 3/8 drive socket set and getting the 1/4 drive equivalent set free, he also had my 10mm flank drive plus combo wrench that was missing from a set I purchased (he had used it as a warranty exchange). I asked him four times to order this for me, he then stopped showing up for 3 months, and I never got my wrench. That's shady as it gets, I would rather a guy show up and tell me he forgot, then to just not show up pretty much admitting he was wrong.
Our new guy now on the other hand is a great vendor. He shows up once a week, takes care of all of us at the shop, and actually calls/answers his phone to make sure we are doing ok. I like this guy so much, I usually buy something once a week, partially because I love tools, partially because I would like to contribute to him staying on this route.
