From what I have read here, generally regarded as a good home box. Mixed opinions on being a good and lasting work box. I have no experience with them, just recalling what I have read elsewhere, pretty heavily discussed box on this site.

I might be having one of those captain obvious moments but that unit looks absolutely identical to my HF 56" top and bottom box cept the base right drawers, is it?. Anyhow if it is the same unit it's pretty solid. I don't think I would use it in a shop environment where I had to roll it around a lot, but for a home based unit, those colors sure look killer. GL on your choice.

Edit: Scratch all that nonsense, I checked the spec's between the units and found the Tool Vault unit at 20" deep verses the HF at 22" and the weight difference is fairly substantial with the HF unit being another 140lbs more.

Agreed, a ton of wasted space. But I'm not having any issues with the locks. One of these days I'll do something different and maybe even sooner then later as my youngest will be out of school this year and is considering a wrench career, so if he goes that route I'll give this to him and get me a 72.

Similar but different. We don't have a full lengt drawer. And only 4 rows on the top.

I bought the Extreme combo from Strictly Toolboxes last month. Was originally going to get the Tool Vault but went with Extreme because of the 18 gauge drawers and extra weight. I am happy with it but not sure it would hold up to professional use in an everday mechanic shop. It does seem to be as good or better then the 10 year old Blue Point boxes we have at work though. I think the Extreme is better than the US General but thats just my opinion. I also got the side locker with my box and really like the 3 drawers and the shelf, don't think the Tool Vault has the drawers. The only thing I am not happy with is the detents on the drawer slides but they seem to be wearing in. The drawer liners aren't the best either but everybody seems to like different liners.

i have one in blue with the side locker.

way better then the HF 56in imo. i compared. didnt even come close. and in my case i got my 3pc combo and shipped to my front door for a hair more then the top and bottom HF 56inch so it was a no brainer for me.

just wish they offered a little side drawer cabinet like HF does. then my setup would be perfect

if i had to use it in a professional environment. as in someone that really uses there box. not like a audio person lol. im sure we can all agree someone that installs radios isnt has hard on there box to someone that works in lets say on heavy equipment so professional environment can be taken all diff ways so it all really depends. but if i had to use it for work lets say in a regular car dealer environment id say if it had heavier duty slides and real s/s drawer pulls and 4 slides on the deeper drawers it be fine. for someone that does audio and light duty stuff like that i wouldnt change anything. for heavy equipment i would look into a diff box..... this is my .02

strictly tool was GREAT to work with. top notch people. i couldnt be happier with how everything was handled.

I have the one in the OP in black. I looked at the Harbor Freight box and was planning to buy one based on all the talk about it on here but didn't care for the latches and didn't like the drawer pull style. I know the Tool Vault box is supposedly lighter although I wonder if the info is accurate and if it is, does it really mean that much. To me the HF box didn't feel as solid as the Tool Vault with the drawers fully extended. I think the drawer slides are a little better design on the Tool Vault and give it that better feel.

What I like about mine: It feels rock solid and I have quite a few of the drawers loaded pretty heavy. Time will tell whether they hold up but the drawer detents are just right, they close with minimal effort and stay closed... although mine isn't really moved around frequently or very far and my floor is smooth. The full width drawer is perfect for air tools. The narrow drawers down the right side are just the right size.

The negatives are that the shallow drawers are pretty shallow, maybe 2.5 inches or less. The up side is there are a lot of them. Most wrenches can stand on end but a combo wrench above an inch or so size has to lay flat. The plastic organizers that HF sells do fit in them. Also, the flip up top section is pretty shallow and the lid has a reinforcement that makes the area half way back even more so. Probably typical of most top compartments with the exception of the new yellow Dewalt boxes. I have all my cordless tools laying on their sides up there and the battery end has to be near the front for it to close.... which is a good place for them but you have to think a little about it.

I looked at a lot of new and used combos before and after buying the Tool Vault and would still buy it if I had it to do over again. I can get some pictures tomorrow.

Do the Tool Vaults have polished or Satin finish handles? The Extreme has the polished, not sure which I would like better. I agree with guys above about Strictly Toolboxes service. They were great and the guys at the Fedex place couldn't believe the packaging.

The handles are coated with some sort of silver paint/powder coat finish. there not stainless. I personally don't like it bc it's sometimes can be a pain to clean without messing up whatever that finish is. It's textured as well. And I rather have the stainless or aluminum handle covers so they don't scratch as easily

A few with some weight, my 1/2 inch drive drawer (am I the only one who keeps all his stuff separated by drive size and keeps my impact stuff separate and doesn't have a drawer with 300 sockets only) and combo wrenches...still deciding what wrench organizers to buy. The top lid handle is something I added, made for a food service cart of some sort I think.

Forgot to note that I did lube my slides when i first got it. Wish I hadn't. They are to smooth. I sometimes tend to slam the drawers bc they are like butter smooth lol but I have gotten use to it over time.

Also you need to install the wheels when you get it. Just keep that in mind.

I like the drawer liners. Not cheap ones by any means

If you decide to pull the trigger, PM me if you are getting just the combo without the side locker. I want to add the side cabinet but its twice as much buying it separate compared to purchased with a combo...... maybe we can work out a deal.

Those are some seriously heavy boxes. If they did the right stuff in the right areas, a Snap -On box would compare to those like a HF box compares to a Snap-On box.

i actually had a snappy classic 96 it was to long for my building it ate up a lot of room nice box, but the extreme 55' professional is actually built better then the SO the EXTREME TOOL BOXES has there own patend on the drawer slides and the 55' pro box the slides are rated at 300lbs each the gauge of all the metal is extremely heavy as the bottom channel i think is 11ga. the shell is 16ga. the drawers bottoms and fronts are 18ga i should of did a print out of it but i didn't, going by the specs with the bottom channel and the drawer slides is a step above the snap-on plus on the pro box the drawer fronts are finished you can not see no weld marks on the drawer fronts and my classic 96'' i had you could see the spot weld marks on the drawer fronts which i thought was not very professional for a box with a retail of $5,900 i am not putting down the SO box but by the reviews and specs the build quality leans toward the Extreme Pro
