Tool Warranty replacement from outside the USA

As I collect more vintage tools to fill out my toolbox, I've had a nagging question...

Most of my tools are Craftsman and Mastercraft (Canadian Tire). I know both have a no questions asked warranty, although the local Sears has only a minimal tool department now.

I just got some old Williams sockets and one is split. I'm not the original owner, nor do I have any proof of purchase. Can I get it replaced by Williams? Has anyone successfully warrantied a tool from outside the USA?

I haven't, but my guess would be the shipping would make it less than worthwhile for most items (sockets especially).

Yeah, that's a good point. I probably won't send this one socket in, I can get a equivalent one from the flea market or re-store for less than $1.

Still curious to hear if anyone's tried it, and what their experience was.

Williams is owned by Snap On, and Snap On sells tools all over the world. Definitely in Canada. So I wonder if you could deal with them from within Canada somehow.

Why should Williams replace your broken tools? You didn't buy them with a warranty.

They don't owe you anything.

This thread belongs in the What's wrong with America" section, although I guess you may not be American.
