Maybe I am the odd one out. But I have the knipex version of these and I really don't use it. I thought it would be like an ultimate adjustable wrench, but since you have to apply the force to keep the jaws closed it really limits applications

It is, and it isn't. Think about when tightening fittings. you will have one side that stays stationary, while you are turning the other piece. You wouldn't want to be dropping both hands to adjust the one plier, which is where this style would benefit. Once you have the size dialed in, you can quickly keep turning. In addition to that, Knipex pliers are designed so that you don't need to operate in a clenched fashion, and only apply force to one side. Really need to watch a video to see that better explained

The negative reviews stopped me from purchasing these. I have Knipex and Icon ones. Both Great tools

I ordered a set shortly after the deal was posted . I'll have to see how they are when they arrive, can always return if they seem really crappy. some ofthe 1 star reviews are maybe for the 7", they talk about it being really smaller, as in singular. Its annoying when amazon mixes reviews for various products into one listing.

100%!

If you're on a Desktop webpage, you can filter the reviews to just the product you want.
Click on Reviews.
Scroll all the way down till you see this, and click on it:

Adjust your filters as needed. This is how I do mine:

  • It didn't find any 1 star reviews.
  • There were two 2-stars.
  • No 3-stars.
  • No 4-stars.
  • There were 13 5-stars.

So, not very many reviews at all.

I didn't check any of the individual sizes of wrenches.

I can't speak to the brand posted above, but I have a few Knipex pairs and haven't touched an adjustable wrench since I bought them. If the pliers wrench won't work for some reason, I'm grabbing an actual wrench, not an adjustable.

You got me to find some YouTube videos on that. I'll have to try using them different next time I likely was using them backwards having to squeeze them the whole time

...So, not very many reviews at all...
I got my set today, so here's my impressions (already owning the same sizes in the original nickel plated Knipex).

I'm not a fan of the black finish. My 10" wrench came with a rust spot in the oil filled bag. I'd expect that on impact sockets, but not on pliers. Moving on, the bright ground finish on the sides of the jaws does not extend to the jaw's working faces. Those are rough black oxide, just like the rest of the handles. So while they're technically smooth jaw pliers, they're not the kind of smooth jaw I'd trust on chrome plated brass parts (unlike the Knipex, with smooth ground and plated jaws).

The plastic dipped handles have a thick textured finish. I guess that's nice if that's your thing, but I prefer the thinner smooth finish Knipex uses (like Channellock). They come with soft jaws. I need to see if those fit my Knipex (I suspect they will)*.

The velcro tool roll they come with has a foam padding sewn inside that makes it twice as thick as it needs to be. I suppose if you're tossing a roll of these wrenches into a box with your fine china, it might help, but in all other cases it's a dreadful waste of space. That's going in the trash very soon.

I see value here if you're not too concerned with marking up clean polished parts and paint (with all the oil and rust), and I'm not upset with my purchase, but it's not a screaming good enough deal for me to go an buy a set for everyone I know. Now if they were plated, it just might be.

* edit: yes, the soft jaws fit my Knipex of the corresponding size perfectly.
