For that price it should not be rusty. Nothing wrong with a box like that to get started, but resale is pretty low on Craftsman boxes, so look for a nice clean one. I'd also look for a top and bottom box that match.

How much would you offer for those boxes?? If I was to shoot him a email? I just want something small to start out with and than go bigger :)

Watch fatwallet.com for Craftsman toolboxes. Much nicer sets with ball bearing drawers come up for around $200 periodically.

:+1: on passing and keeping on looking. That was a bottom feeder box when built, plus its rusty, plus its small. I think you would find yourselves out of space almost immediately, if not before you put in what you have now...

Who knows?
Pass Pass Pass!

You'll be full in a month tops.
Hold out for something MUCH bigger, don't go pro but there are alot better ones out there.
If you were closer I'd pass some on to you. Then I could justify buying an even bigger box!

Are you still a student? When I was in school for auto, the best thing I did was take advantage of the dealer discounts, like snap on, matco, and mac. I don't know if your program offers the same thing. But even with financing, you make out on top... Best thing I ever did as far as tools go.

Hold out. That thing Is overpriced. I got a craftsman 9 drawer roller with zero rust for less than that thing. I also agree with everyone else, get something bigger. The jeep rule applies. Go big or go home.

I'll jump in and concur with everyone else about passing on the first box. I actually paid $125 for that same set, used, on CL, at night, and almost immediately regretted it. My sister was staying with me at the time and took one look at it when I brought it home and doubled over laughing. Cheap metal that dents if you look at it wrong, and the drawer slides don't extend the length of the box, so they bend easily (ask how I know.)

I was so mad at myself that I stripped the top and bottom units to bare metal and repainted them with about two quarts of rustoleum red. I'm hoping to get $50 for the set, fingers crossed.

Yes I am a student. I plan on taking advantage on the discount. Start doing my auto classes in fall.

When I was in school I took out a loan and bought a **** ton of tools from Mac at half price but screw buying a new box I would get a used one, if you have a menards store the master force boxes aren't too bad for starters if you are wanting new. Just to say it again, the tools are way more important than the box in my opinion, good luck and be patient a deal will come along.

Sears had an ad this morning for a ball bearing set for $189. The set in the original CL ad is worth no more than $10.
