Toolbox full of junk tools?

What do you all think of this idea, keep a toolbox of really junk tools to lend out so people stop asking? I'm thinking it could be kind of fun, somebody sees your nice big box and asks to borrow some wrench, and you pull out a rusty reject box with a flame decal and hand them a wrench Henry Ford threw away in disgust.

that's what i did 2yrs ago. I'm renting the apartment at my uncles house; the backyard with the garage is my property.
Being family we share a lot, but i hated searching my tools and finding my snap on pliers in his freaking greenhouse.
So i took an old cheap toolbox, threw my old cheap tools in there and made the rule all other tools has to be asked for.

Lots of people do this. Not many people ask to borrow my tools... but there are a couple who if they ask, get my best stuff.

Great minds think alike. I had the same idea after reading that adjustable wrench thread. It is probably a good idea but a better idea would be a hard and fast no loan policy. There are some things I just won't loan. Books and tools would top out the list.

I don't loan any of my tools for any reason. I also don't ask to borrow too for any reason, if I need a tool I buy it unless it is an expensive tool that will be rarely used, then I rent one.

I was thinking of making a game of how nasty of an old tool can I find to let people borrow. Maybe its just a way to collect a few more tools. Maybe an annual nastiest looking tool set contest.

Hahaha...count me in. I'll bet I can put something together. Are we talking just nasty-looking, or does actually crappy tool status earn extra credit?

Set her up with her own tool drawer in the house. I did this and it has worked very well so far. Also impressing upon the little woman about the penalty for removing a tool and not returning it exactly as found to exactly where found might help!

I am with Lecroix..I dont lend or borrow to anyone. If I need a tool I buy it. if I cant afford it at the time I find a way to do the job without it..then I buy it.
If I wanted to borrow tools I wouldnt have locks on My Toolbox.
I purposely bought 3/4" Impact sockets and a Gun..work supplies a few of them but they hardly ever work and you can never find the socket you need.
Not cheap to do but I know where the gun and sockets are and I know they work.

My wife won't think about going into my toolboxes - absolutely no interest whatsoever. That's why I'm always getting asked to hang this or tighten this or that. That inconvenience is way less imposing than hunting for my stuff on a regular basis.

Now if I could just get her to stop piling her **** on top of the tool chest by the door to the house.

I bought a set of duralast ratchets @ autozone for $20.00 on clearance for this purpose. I have friends asking for a flexhead or a stubby ratchet all the time, Not my Snap-On. One of my buddies had the nerve to say I would rather use the snap on. no no.

Sounds like the tool box I carry in my 4x4. Rusted, bent, beat up junk tools. Juat good enough to get it to the garage with.
