Naw- I was mostly pointing out not to overlook used Macsimizers if you couldn't find a KRL. Macsimizers are freaking tanks, and often well priced in the used market. High bang for buck ratio. If I had to grab a traditional box to head back on the truck dealer floor that would be it. Not a thing wrong with KRL
Well, I disappointed this morning once he got it off the truck to find out on the sticker on the back that it is actually a KRA2422 rather than the KRL722 I was originally told it was. Since it's not going to be constantly moved around the shop and I'll be trading it back in for a larger box in about a year I decided it wasn't a complete deal breaker. Got him down to $3500 for it. Being that it has the stainless top the list price on it was $6500, so it doesn't seem to be too bad of a deal.

Not good ending up with a kra .
For a years use a 56" HF would last, I used one of those on a old airfield site and lugged it around on a forklift for 10 months (extra frame & fork guides welded up for it)
If you told it a krl722 and it ain't get your money back or at least 600 of it .
Big BIG difference between those boxes. I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I could throw him.![]()
Hi, All, I'm new to this forum and this is my first comment.
What's the difference between the KRA that makes it less desirable and has a lower price?
For someone like me who is just beginning to get into tool chests, should I start off with a KRA so that I can grow into it?
Thanks!
Seems like an expensive mistake and the fact that you'll wind up just using it for up to a year reinforces that.
I'm not sure I follow this logic, because I can trade it back to my dealer and not lose money on it and upgrade to a larger box. If I sold it private party I would certainly lose money on it, but that isn't the plan.![]()
The krl drawer slides hold about double the capacity. The 722 and 7022 are a little taller. The 1022 is the 7022 with an extra row of drawers. I don't know if there's a difference in the metal used. For most people a kra would probably be fine but I wouldn't get one new. From what I've seen you can find one for about 1500 if you're patient but they go quick. I have seen a few krl722s listed at 1700 and older krl1002s for 1000-1500. Mac tech 1000 and matco 4s usually go for significantly less. Prices vary a lot by area and the valve brands are really stepping up. A $700 harbor freight, masterforce, international or whatever makes sense when you figure you'll probably lose more than that on resale of a new truck box.Hi, All, I'm new to this forum and this is my first comment.

If I ordered an F-250 and the dealer brought me an F-150 instead I wouldn’t accept it. I ordered an F-250 because I need an F-250’s capacity, I’m not going to trade in the F-150 in a year and upgrade to the F-250 then. Make sense?
You didn’t get what you ordered but accepted it anyway with plans to trade up in a year. I wouldn’t want the hassle of moving everything around in another year to get what I wanted and was willing to pay for in the first place. You’re assuming that that dealer will still be employed and on the same route in a year allowing a loss free trade in, I would want the loss free trade in part in writing at a minimum.
If it isn't big enough now, can you call him up and move into a bigger box right off the bat? Maybe since it was just yesterday he can cancel the 2422 deal and get you into a proper sized box? I don't know your finances but I think I'd at least ask.
