I bought a new Snap on roll cab yesterday and am really happy with it. I would like to have a better work surface on top than just the rubber mat it came with. I have a sheet of 1" think HDPE laying around that I'm thinking of cutting to size and mounting as a work top. Do you guys think this would turn out well and make a good toolbox work surface?

All depends what you're working on. I have a sheet of 11G 304 SST on my KRL, been there for years and works well.

I used horse stall mat material. It's about 3/4" thick. One side is slick rubber , the other side is a textured fiber. Has worked well for several years. It might have cost $40.00.

I have a glued up project panel from lowes. It has recently developed a slight warp, but works fine and looks nice.

It turned out really good! Trying to decide if I like the square edges or if I should chamfer or round them over with my router.

Nothing super fancy here, but I put a sheet of 1/4" Luan on my Kennedy work box, held up pretty well for being on 7+ yrs.

I like the top and congrats on the new box, that's sweet looking.

I just did a top for my HF box today. I had the top from an old oak desk, so I cut it down to overhang the ends 2 inches, the front 1/2 inch, and the rear an inch. I then used a router and 1/4" bit to plow a groove in the bottom side to fit over the lip around the top of the box.

The reason for the extra work was so I could mount a Columbian vise on the front right corner and the extra overhang allowed the top drawer to open with the vise handle hanging vertical. The desk top was pretty thick, so this worked out nicely.

I've used Stainless Clad Maple, had a SST sheet broke around a maple block with slots...
you could take the SS off and have a wood benchtop, Now I just have a 60x30 Maple Butcher Block on mine. I've also used countertop, just ordered it made to size of my box top from a cabinet shop... Had a Solid Surface topper at one point from Snap-On.
All of them worked well, Also had a half inch thick Steel Plate on one!
