I was looking at the Montezuma 56" bottom box on their site and was surprised as hell to learn it only weighs in at 307lbs net/345lbs shipped. My measly little 36" single bay Snap-on box weighs in a 396lbs net/450lbs shipped.

Snapon uses goog ol' heavy gage sheet, I think 16ga.

Not an apples and oranges comparison, though. Montezuma has the top of the drawers bent 90* to stiffen them, Snap-On doesn't. Montezuma has 3 stiffeners under each long drawer, the Snap-On's I've seen doesn't. Montezuma has the bullnose on the front, Snap-On doesn't.
I'm not saying it is or isn't better, but thickness alone isn't a comparison.
I've helped remove Snap-On drawers at work, and they racked much easier than the Montezuma ones do.
It's no different than welding a piece of 1/4" steel in something, or putting an 1/8" piece in that's drilled and dimpled. For many applications, you can get hte same strength, at half the weight.

The KRL1022 and the KRA2411 that I have on my truck each have 4 stiffeners under the the wide drawers.
The metal is bent 180* on the sides of the drawers and 90* on the back. The front panel of the drawers have several bends in them.
I am not sure what you are referring to by "bull nose" so I have no comment on that.
I am by no means knocking the quality of the Montezuma box I am just correcting some mis-information.

yes, and i would have to see proof to back up that statement.
he also could have meant thet the drawers were easier to put back in..........but i doubt that even more.

Ah, so stiffeners are about the same. I saw the 180* bend, but I don't think it's as strong as a 90*. How much practical application that has, I have no clue.

I think my macsimizer has the "bull-nose" thing on its drawers.
But according to snap on its a weak piece of ****, it weighs around 800 lbs for a 67" double bank.

The new EPIQ series boxes from SO use 14 ga. steel. Take a look at the video on SO's website. I think the Montezuma box is sweet but you can't say it exceeds Snap-On quality.
Merk is such a instigator... He is always asking these biased questions especially if it concerns someone's purchase etc... Dont get me wrong I enjoy getting everyones opinion on brands, and specific items it just makes me chuckle picturing Merk sitting back waiting for the fireworks to start. I really enjoy NCrawlers box but im sure its Main bragging right vs a Comparable sized Snap on would be sq/inch of storage per $1. The great thing about brand competition is there is always something that is gonna appeal to one person and not the next.

If the bull nose is the triangular bend on the outside of the bottom of the drawer face, Snap-on boxes have a similar bend on the bottom of the drawer face, but it faces the inside.
Snap-on drawers do "rack" when they are removed from the slides, but they're not being supported the way they are when installed.
This is why I bought a 42" Westward combo
No doubt, I'm waiting to read Nissans review of the box. I have a 20 year old Snap on Box, its only 26" and is too small with alot of my tools in my service truck. I'm looking for something bigger for my shop, not sure I'd go as big as Nissan did but be nice to know what he thinks of the quality.
no sir neal, the slant front boxes like the crossover, craftsman and others are us made. see my avatar. i will put them up against any snap-on box made ever for durability.
I'll put up my walmart box up againts yours any day
it's no joke, they are that tough, i have three that have logged thousands of miles and thousand of hours off road with zero repair or malfunctions. i can shut the lid and flip it upside down and back again with almost 100% of the tools staying in place and no damage to the box. search for a a montezuma thread.

Absolutely correct. I considered one of these for a while after seeing one that belonged to another apprentice at trade school. They are (or were) sold up here under the CPS brand via Westward tools. Rock solid and I know several ag and heavy equipment road mechanics who have ran them for years with zero problems. With only 1 hinge (and possible a drawer on the bigger models IIRC) and heavy gauge steel, there is little to go wrong.
I will happily get in on a wager of SK's box versus a Walmart box
I got one after seeing sk-farmers box and I have it on top of my kra and it is a nice beast, I bet will be here long after my snap on breaks, but then it is only a cheap kra I got for free, so what do you expect. Also the free snap on box came with the wilton, now that will be here as long as the montezuma box is around, they are both made in the USA.
thanks for the votes of confidence on the box guys. if you are like me i don't want to get in any fights over my "cpl" boxs, their original name. not for everone or every application but nearly indestructable. i do not have any of their traditional boxes but if nissan says they are built that good i beleive him. i do not always agree with him but if there were any flaws he would tear them apart
