Menards has a butcher block top for 170$-ish, 36x72, Would have to cut to fit though. Other sizes are available too. Menards seemed the most reasonable, Zoro & Home depot were a bit more.

I have been using an old solid door with a birch veneer since I purchased my box in 1997. every five years or so I would sand and re varnish. I like the ikea butcher block though.

A guy I work with has a Mac box with an old counter top on it. He found someone getting new counter tops and took a chunk and cut it to the length and has been using it.
It's got the backing on it too (I don't know what that's technically called) but it's just held down by it's own weight. he loves it and I am mildly jealous. haha
