Just picked this up courtesy of Craigslist for 40 bucks. No lock, looks like holders for a pipe or dowel rod to keep drawers shut riveted to the front, and small rough spot on the top. But all drawers slide smooth. 41 inch length. I know nothing about these boxes but I figured for 40 bucks it was a steal? Was I right or did I not do as well as I thought? What can you guys tell me about these boxes in general? Thanks

It's kind of ugly, but a good cleaning, minor straightening, sanding, and a paint job will be easy. I'd say if the drawer slides work fairly smoothly then you did right fine for $40.

Honestly, I don't really see a "steal" but something that will require a bunch of TLC to correct mistakes by previous owner who didn't care about appearances. About half that price would have softened the amount of necessary work needed to bring the box back to decent shape, unless you are only going to use it for tool storage and general rough work.
