I am adding a tool chest and have been checking out the ones I can actually look at and touch here in my area stores. The usual suspects are, of course, the Craftsman and Sears and HD and Lowe's and those places, all of which carry what I have found to be tin-can junky stuff. In fact, I can't believe any of it sells. The HF boxes are junk. All of these have flimsy-feeling drawers which slop around. And so on.
So I've been looking into better-quality boxes. I am finding some with steel gauges in the 18 to 20 ga. range. These are better. [And, yes, I am going to talk to Simply Toolboxes soon.] Does anyone know what the gauge is for a box like, perhaps, SnapOn sells? I looked at their web site and in their catalogue and could not find that info'. Just for reference; I do not have the money for a chest costing thousands. Buy my old Waterloo chest is ten times the feel and fit of these new, inexpensive boxes, and even though it does not have ball-bearing extension slides, the drawers are much more stable and smoothly operating than these new boxes I see. [Go figure.]
So, I am just trying to get a mental picture here, and while steel gauge is not the only factor, I am curious. I can make contact with a SnapOn driver at the airport where I work sometimes, but it is hit-and-miss, so if someone has an idea, thanks.
