So my Uncle's garage burned down a few days ago along with his ATVs and thousands of dollars worth of tools. I'm assuming his home owners insurance will cover much of the expense of replacing his stuff, but I was just wondering what if anything (Hand wrenches?) would survive a structural fire?

Depends on how hot the fire was and was the building completely engulfed of was it just a fire in an area of the shop that was handled

Some of the tools may survive

The heat may have changed the tempering or hardening of anything that was prior to the fire. It may look fine, with maybe a little discoloration, but structurally it is changed. As rsanter said, it depends on how hot it (and the tools) got.

They are probably scrap if it was a typical hot garage fire.

Insurance will pay part of the replacement cost, but garage contents are normally covered only to some percent of the total policy coverage, unless there is a rider (at additional premium cost).

Fire was pretty devastating (roof completely burned to the cinder blocks) I'm hoping a separate rider was in place on the tools.

If the heat didn't do them in and nobody got to them to give them a good cleaning expect them to rust and corrode from the acids and other chemicals from the fire and the extinguishing efforts.
