I used to live in Mi. and we would go to meijers for everything, they were the super walmart before walmart came around. They had a good selection of tools like channel locks, visegrips , & cresent. I went back to Mi. for a visit in October & I see they carry Tekton tools now. Some of it pretty good.
They had a good automotive section too.

Thrifty acres? haven't heard it called that since I was a kid!! thanks for the memory!

THey have changed alot over the years to compete with walmart and the like but still hangin' in there. The Hendrik Meijer story is a good read, did you know they continued to build the stores with 8" thick concrete so they could be turned in to car dealarships in case the hypermatket didn't take off right up through the 80's, IIRC. (last one was the cascade store). Been a while since I read the book so may be rusty on the details but interesting none the less...

What was the name of the little dutch boy on their logo? can't remember that one...

Wow! I had forgotten that dutch boy until you mentioned it. They stopped using that in the early to mid 70's at the Greenville store.
