What would be the most common sizes of sockets and wrenches needed for newer John Deere tractors and hay making equipment? Looking to put together a box specifically for working on our 3 JDs and the rakes and bailers. We’ve also got 6 old farmalls, but I know they’re all sae and we’ve got those tools taken care of. I believe the newer JD stuff is all metric.

8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 30 and 32 should do it from what I remember unless Ag runs different fasteners than construction.

If you have a Moco, you'll definitely want a good 6 point 18mm impact socket to change blades and turtle shells on the cutter bar. 27mm for the front rims for 4wd, 30mm for the rear axle. 15mm and 16mm wrenches to remove the fan pulley on the engine it it's similar to the 7.6 and 8.1 engines. To change the hydraulic couplers, you'll need a thin 32mm wrench. Grease gun to grease the front axle frequently. This is often overlooked and wears out the bushings and eats into the housing quickly.

If I was putting together a kit I would probably just have a full set of wrenches but if you want the minimum, make sure you have a 10, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 27, 30 and 32mm. The injector return lines may still use a 9/16 wrench.

Oh come on nobody does that! Or at least in my area.....pulled off way too many axles housing to take to the machine shop and have filled in and bored out for the bushing. I have used Devcon with fairly good success if the axle housing wasn't complete hamburger. Even did it on 4wd pivot pins.

Belt splicing tool for the baler I would say too.

Everyone around here overlooks until it becomes a problem. After paying to fix it, they tend to remember better. Local dealer said he saw one that the driveshaft cut through the oil pan.

That's impressive!!

My favorite is when I get a call asking if they need to take the 'bottom pulley' off because the belt wont fit between the balancer and the axle housing pivot area. No sir....you have bigger issues than a belt
