tools for roll around cart

I purchased the 4 drawer cart from HF. I am a limited DIY guy. trying figure out what tools I need in it.

my 3 vehicles are:
2004 Dodge Durango
2004 Chevy truck
2005 Yamaha Roadstar

I change brakes, oil, battery etc. no big overhaul etc.

do I need strictly metric wrenches or is there any SAE in these?

I will have some pry bars, volt meter, screwdrivers, assortment of pliers and adjustable. (both SAE and Metric type jk)

anything else you found handy in your rollaway box?

I’m not sure about the Chevy or Yamaha, but iirc... my 2002 Durango was all metric. You’ll want a comprehensive set of torx sockets for the Durango.

Load up some metric in it, as you work on the cars you will not have things on the cart, go get them from the stationary box and then leave them on the cart. You will accumulate what you need eventually.

No one can know exactly what they need before they need it, unless you are my old neighbor who was the best mechanic ever and actually did know exactly which tool and what size was needed for every job before we started wrenching on one of his old BMW's....lol

I have the same cart set up for my 4Runner. Heres whats in mine:

-3/8 impact sockets (standard and deep)
-1/2 impact sockets (standard and deep)
-3/8 and 1/2 impact extensions
-spark plug socket
-metric nut drivers
-screw driver set
-metric wrenches (standard and ratcheting)
-1/2 torque wrench
-1/4 torque wrench
-pick and hook set
-torx drivers
-hex drivers
-assorted pliers/adjustable wrenches
-oil filter wrench
-hose clamp pliers
-hose ring pliers
-spark plug gap tool
-OBD scanner
-LED lights
-interior trim tools
-tire pressure gauge
-pry bars

Also have magnetic trays on it with assorted sprays, lubricants, disposable gloves, etc.

Have the 5 drawer cart cart and I'm currently adding tools to it. Have a 98 Cummins and a 97 Powerstroke.

3/8 Sunex Full impact socket set
1/2 Deep impact Metric/SAE
1/2 Shallow non impact sockets Metric/SAE
3/8 Deep and shallow sockets Metric/SAE
1/4 Deep and shallow sockets Metric/SAE
3/8 and 1/2 extensions
ratchets for all the above
1/2 breaker bar
1/2 torque wrench
1/4 drive to socket adapters for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2
1/4 drive makita impact
1/2 makita impact
metric and sae combo wrenches
metric and sae ratcheting combo wrenches
pliers/wrenches
Screwdrivers
Junk drawer with tap measure, body panel clip remover, razor knife, misc bits, picks, extendable magnet, safety glasses, super glue, loctite, paint pen, ratcheting screwdriver, allen wrenches

Getting the 44" box soon to move the SAE and 1/2" stuff to. Dont use it a ton.

With the Dodge definitely need Torx.

*Edit: Forgot fluids too. Always have some PB Blaster, Brake Clean, and WD40 in the side shelf with a roll of duct tape.

I never pre-loaded a service cart, I tailored my needs to the job. Perhaps a wrench set, rail of sockets Ratchet, Line wrenches maybe... but rarely did I have a whole preloaded cart. Been a while though!

After a few repetitive tasks,you will know what you need. For instance, few times ,if ever, you will need a 14mm,16mm,20mm,23mm on a Durango.

usually i grab the following,
11 Piece pliers set, Long reach.
full metric set of wrenches, 8-22mm.
4 screwdrivers, long and short.
3/8 socket set from 8-22mm, deep and shallow
1/4 sockets from 6-14 deep and shallow.
test light
filter wrench
spark plug sockets
and my set of extensions

i cover almost everything i can encounter in a service, depends on the vehicle and depends on the job, but thats what i grab

19mm and 21mm + breaker bar for wheels.

I bought that same car last year. I set it up for working on my tractor with half inch drive fractional stuff, prybars, power strip etc. No matter what you use it for, I think you'll like it.
