Tools from Grandpa

Hey guys-
Got a whole bunch of stuff from my grandpa today. My grandma died 3 weeks ago so he is preparing to move into a smaller apartment, and most of this stuff has been sitting in storage for 20+ years anyway. I went through all of it and this is what I kept.
Nice mix of older Stanley tools, several Rosco screwdrivers, Ridgid pipe wrench, no name on either hammers but I am going to clean them on the wire wheel.
Some of the tools I will use and others I am going to put in my 'old tools' box and keep them clean. The small vise will be put to work right away with my lock collection!

I would of loved to have gotten tools from my Grandpa, even if there not the best, or even if I would hardly use them. Just to have them is special in itself.

After my Grandpa passed, Grandma held on to his hand tools. However, the woodworking tools and his Kennedy machinist chest came to live with me. The Kennedy works full time at my job now, just as it did at his print shop for 30+ years. The woodworking stuff is stored away for when I have a larger workspace.

I would give my left nut to have anything from my grandfathers. Both of them passed on before I was around, both worked in sawmills.

My grandpa was a mechanic and a millwright... I inherited a bunch of his grey and snap on socket sets (1/2" and 3/4" drives) and a southbend model a lathe with a couple chucks and a whack load of tooling.

It is cool having and using his old tools, but I do wish he was around and could show me how to use them more...

I'm happy that over the summer cleaning out the garage and restoring my dads retired snapon/mac/matco tools from when he was a mechanic, I found a plastic blow mold MAC case with a full deep and short 1/4" socket set, as well as a 1/4" red hard handle extension (missing a few sockets, as well as the ratchet). All engraved very small with my grandfathers initials.

My grandma said that she remembered him getting that set sometime in the 60's when he began working in NJ/NYC as a mechanic.

Yea, I heard my Grandpa was into Tools, yet I never saw ONE, course he was from Texas, and Dad had moved up here in the 50's.

No biggie, he has over 40 geat grand-kids, and has passed on since the 80's. I have good memories of working on the farm with him. Not a lot of them, but the ones I have are good.

I got a load of my grandfathers tools. He was a doctor and a surgeon The tools are cool, but not something that I can use very often. Some of them look downright medieval!

I realize how fortunate I am to have spent nearly everyday with my grandpa growing up farming. My dad died when I was 11 so he was more than a grandpa, he was my dad, my mentor, and my hero. He was an old WWII vet that could take apart and fix anything and I stood over his shoulder for years and soaked it all up. He passed away about 10 months ago at the age of
91. My brother and I split the tools and tool boxes up and not a day goes by that I dont think about him and most days I will purposely chose one of the older tools out my box with his initials carved into it, to do what ever I am involved in.

Thanks for the post Jeff and take care of your grandpas tools. Maybe years from now your grandson will put his hands on them too.

i only got to see one grandparent when i was only a couple years old. all the rest had passed before i was born.

i have my dads SK hand tools he bought the year before i was born. still have his brace & bits, hand saws, and planes.

even looking at the woodworking tools, makes me sad, he's been gone now for 33 years,
he woulda been 93 this year........

I have a Montgomery Wards slide hammer that came from my Grandpa's garage. I use it often and think of him. I purchased some wrenches and a wagon jack on his sale. I have alot of older tools in my boxes that have a story to go with them.

Neither of my grandpas are in to tools, however one does fancy harbor freight lol.

yeah, still wish mine was around, I could have learned a lot from him, but I did not have too much interest at the time, Was supposed to get his tools when He died, he always said, but my Uncle took them, he is gone now too, and had all girls, so I guess the Son in Laws got them, and the tools probably don't mean squat to them.
I had his old V logo, I think you call it, 1/2" ratchet, but it was stolen at work.(Pissed me off)
I think it would break my heart to have to move into a small apartment and have to give up my shop and tools.
