Those Berner pliers look hip.

This thread has got to be the best one of the entire year, really. No contest for daily doses of tool goodness.

To everybody who celebrate christmas on the 24th: Merry Christmas !! Joyeux Noël ! feliz Navidad ! Buon Natale ! Frohe Weihnachten ! :)

I thought they had a lifetime warranty for a good reason :)

But thats not a excuse not to own 2 sets :D ;) j/k

Sure! Just tell me how many you will be for diner tonight please, it's getting crowded here, nobody can go to Bruxelles, Namur,... for their christmas parties because the highways are closed. So my mum's guest list is getting longer and longer since this morning, she asked me to wire a second oven (Which I had to install in the new kitchen in february :lol_hitti)

:) too cold, i rather stay at home :D - but thanks for the offer ;)
lol a second oven ?? your poor mom... :) it´s time to celebrate and not to cook :)

I like the look! Are they rebadged or is it their own design?
I had a look on their website, some tools seem familiar...

Designed for Berner it seems. The handle design looks like the new NWS design but different, the head of the combination pliers look different too (ribs on the side of the head etc.) There are similar pliers from NWS but not identical. Here are some hi-res pics of their high leverage combi pliers: click . Here some hi-res pics of the new handles: click

The original was a Stanley brand. It was a 2-component handle, but with a cheapy plastic and textured rubber areas.

With the KoKen name on the ratchet the quality rose at least 300% :D

Here's some more pics of the Ko-ken T-handle:
With the awesome knurling, and the ball detent/dimple on the oval handle.

sweet !!!

Member "Chreese" has a collection of Berner branded tools. I believe they source items from Stahlwille for part of their socketry items.
BTW, where's Chreese? Haven't seen him in a while.

good question ! Maybe he has a real life now ? :D In the german forum he is every now and then...

If the Heuer models are all like that they're not the vices for me, I'm far too ham-fisted for non-replaceable jaws

Oh that's a shame. Sadly for the European manufacturers the imports have reached 'good enough'.

My new Logitech C250. I'm hoping it takes higher quality pictures than my C200. I'll be using it for tool video reviews. :)

And lastly Dutch small cigars. I only smoke around Christmas and New Years anymore.

Forgot a few things that I got early...

Bosch bits from Sears seems a bit overpriced at $25 but has a nice box I wouldn't get buying single bits.

Heres a truly international product. American music and artist, CDs made in Germany, designed in Holland and owned by a British company.

Monte, i have a question for you. In your tool collection that seems to be very vast, do you have fractional or SAE sockets and wrenches ? or is everything in your collection of tools all Metric ?
Inquiring minds would like to know.

yes i have a couple of SAE sockets in 1/2" dr. from 1/2" to 1 1/8", 3 sizes in 3/8" dr. (19/32", 5/8", 11/16") and the small sizes from 3/16" to 9/16" in 1/4" dr. Only shallow sockets. I have 5 deep 3/8" dr. SAE sockets. All from Hazet (shallow) and the long ones from Stahlwille. I have hex keys in SAE from Bondhus (13 pc.) + Eklind (0.050 to 5/16") and SAE combination wrenches from Craftsman (raised panel) from 1/4" to 1 1/4" as well as a 4 pc. open box (line) wrench set from Craftsman in SAE

Any ideas on where to buy these in the US or what they are called?

American Lockpicker,

The above Hazet curved jaw locking plier is actually made by C.H. Hanson in China. I bought a Facom version of the 7" needle nose locking plier. There is no COO marking on the Facom version. I bought it from a U.K. eBay seller. After the purchase, I learned about the C.H. Hanson LockJaw Pliers being made overseas. I was very unhappy with the purchase since I could have bought the C.H. Hanson version at Sears for far less money.

Got this at the post office today. :)

Mmmmm:drool:

Each time I tell myself, "I promise I won't buy any Facom, it's not a european manufacturer anymore", I think about these locking pliers and say, "they can't be completly bad if they produce such things".

Very nice purchase!!

Btw, Monte you have a T5.L locking plier I think, do you like it?

Thanks. :) I like Facom but I will only buy the older Made in France tools. Also the packaging the pliers came in looks older so I guess its preStanley. :)

Yes this packaging seems quite old, the only one I've seen before is a from a set of pre-OGV combination wrench, so probably 20 years old...

Well, Facom have more and more stuffs made in asia but it seems that the "basic" tools are still made in europe?
I wonder about their sockets and ratchets (excluding rotators), are they made in Italy? Monte had a map but I can't find it anymore, I would also like to know where their torque wrench are made, I bought one this afternoon...
I can't complain about the quality and finish of the socketry... I can't say the same about the 440's wrenches, they have a nice design but when compared with the 40 serie (at least the one made in France), the finish is a bit lower. It's sad to see that such an high end finish has been buried with the closing of the french wrench factory... I've always loved the feel of the 4O's surface, it's like "metalic silk" :bounce:

Well, here is this morning's mail, (thanks to my postman that snow doesn't scare):

Wera bit set

Wera nut drivers with hollow shaft (thanks Monte for the advise), no Coo on the box or the drivers, is legal to do this in europe?

FACOM still makes most of their tools in Europe (60% according to their catalog). Many tools are still top quality tools including their ratchets and their screwdrivers.

Funny you should post this, I was in a new-to-me hardware store today that operates under the national banner of Do-It Centers. They has a carded pair of these called Lockjaws. They looked interesting, but at $27 I did not bite.

I wonder is it possible to buy a NEW French made facom ratchet set anywhere?

As I am located in belgium, I live at a few miles of where they used to make that stuff (in France).
DO NOT buy new Facom gear. I have literally everything Facom ever used to make, but since the Stanley company (I think) bought Facom, about half of their production is moved to ... (China, Korea, Taiwan, somewhere over there). I never had to use their lifetime guarantee before, however since the company where I work bought the "new and improved" Facom stuff (as they have been doing for decades), they break their ratchets all the time. Now they use Hazet, which is German top quality.

You will find French made Facom gear still locally, however It's not worth the risk buying online.

I've always used Facom sockets on my impact gun (or impact wrench, or how 'd you call them?) instead of the black impact sockets, and never had a problem. I've recently seen with my own eyes a new socket explode at work.
True, they aren't made for impact loading, but their former steel sure did hold up to that kind of abuse.

I won't lend my old screwdrivers, sockets, ratchets, automotive tools out to anyone anymore, as they are of a quality you don't find much anymore.

So wheres that pen case made?
There's no COO, damn it!

I wonder is it possible to buy a NEW French made facom ratchet set anywhere?

Ratchets only shouldn't be too much difficult to find, I sometime see NOS on ebay but complete sets (at least OGV) :headscrat. I'm not sure that my father's sockets have France on it, and they're 15-20 years old...

Cantause, my Facom torque wrench is made in Italy. Very good quality and it has a super smooth mechanism.

Thanks! It's strange, according to the map, torque wrenches are made in France, so I wonder if the map is still up to date? The torque wrench on the map is a 306A so it might be this specific model produced there, I'll see when I get mine, I took a S306.A200...
Also I have a multigrip plier (like the one on the map) with no COO on it and usually when it's french made they show it somewhere...

@Cantause

Thanks for the map! I'm glad to see their JET XL tool carts are still made in France, it's on my wishlist.

I agree with you, I'm very satisfied of my ratchet sets, the fact that they're made in Italy doesn't really make a difference for me. The screwdrivers are nice too, but I'm not sure I would buy them from Facom if I had to do it again.
It just ***** that Facom only put a coo when it's France, I wouldn't be scared by italian products. I guess that other brands are not better about that...

What's what? the city of the tool?
Pecky is in Czech Republic, not too far from Brno (from the CZ rifles)...
for the tool, look at Facom's 75 series. (75.11/16 ("), 75.17 (mm), ...)
