I was somewhat disappointed with the Wera ratcheting screwdriver.

The blade is playing along the vertical axe, i.e. has an axle play. While the grip is pretty firm enough, ratcheting works fine and blade doesn't slip, it still makes me uncomfortable.

I was reading a review on a precision oiler on Amazon when it mentioned the original version was made in England. Did a bit of searching around and found a Draper. I seem to remember Draper being an import company(could be wrong :headscrat ) anyways is this made in England? If not does anyone a EU made version. I've wanted one for years but not about to buy a Neiko or General Tools one.

The "spanners" in that roll were the prototypical shape of spark-plug wrenches, and they're called either box or tube wrenches. Not very common here, I suppose.

Alrighty then. In British English, an adjustable spanner is what we would here would call an adjustable wrench. They're the same thing. American english calls something entirely different a spanner. The little flat tools with pins or tabs to catch onto something and turn it. Now that would be a "pin" or "hook" spanner to those using BE.

See this page for a bit more info on various wrench types and stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question regarding spanners!

The Draper item is Taiwanese. The only assembled in England (the wording they use) precision oiler of which I am aware is the Valvespout, but it's an entirely different species from 'pen' oilers.

These pin spanners from France were old when I got them in the mid 80's for $1.
I dig the replacement pins in the handle and the ability to screw them in both axes.
The brass thumb screw is also very cool.

FYI...Wiha now has a line of "economy wrenches". Made in India.
All tool companies should do that , cheap line of tools made in China/India and a pro line made in Europe , USA , Japan etc.Keeps everyone happy then.

Very useful mini file from Sandvik/Oberg
Thanks to help me completed my custom tool rack ;)

You show the Megadora Tang-through screwdrivers in that second picture. How tough are they? Have you actually hit them with a hammer yet?

how good are "Gordon" tools made in England?:headscrat

imho Gordon tools are well built. They are fairly commonplace at the car boot sales in the UK, from my experience, but that doesn't detract from their quality.... i.e. they are still around and looking good many years since the company closed. I stand to be corrected.

The company was in Rockingham Street in Sheffield (Steel City), South Yorkshire.

Sheffield, and its surrounding area, was the powerhouse for steel production in the UK for many years and probably still is.

If I see anything that is made in Sheffield I am very confident about its quality.

Gordon tools were pretty good. One of the suppliers to (old) Britool, as well as selling in their own right.

Sheffield, and its surrounding area, was the powerhouse for steel production in the UK for many years and probably still is.

If I see anything that is made in Sheffield I am very confident about its quality.

Not sure 'powerhouse' applies to any part of British industry these days, but Sheffield still has unique (worldwide) steel processing capacities. As a fairly recent example, the bridge supports for the new Hong Kong bridge crossing are clad in Sheffield stainless :)

In terms of hand tools, Stanley make the bulk of their blades and bladed products in South Yorkshire to this day.

I picked up this torx key at today's flea market, dated 1992, in unopened package. I know it isn't from "old world", but the package is in german language with price in DM. Today price was 10 cents  it's unbelievable that this thing waited almost 20 years for me to open..
