Welcome on board Chreese ! :)
Very nice collection of exotic tools ! ;)

hhmmmmm Weidmüller !
Unfortunately their crimping tools are beyond my budget...

Do you have some close-ups of the Berner (NWS) circlip pliers ?

ps: Those Wiha bit-holders are sweet !

ps: where do you got the Knipex combi pliers with red/black handle from ?

Servus,

thanks for your replies.

Both Weidmüller pliers were on sale at Hoffmann lately. Of course, I bought the PZ 3 before the promo started and paid more. Fortunately, the deal on the Stripax was great.
As far as I know, the Atorn self-adjusting wire stripper that looks a lot like the Stripax is on sale until the end of August.

Sorry, I don't have any close-ups of the Berner circlip pliers. I can only offer to email you the non-resized version of the pic posted above.

Those pliers came with the Proxxon "PKW- und Universalwerkzeugkoffer" I purchased years ago.

I had that Felo E-smart set, but ended up returning it, bits fit sloppy just wasnt a fan of it

I agree, there's some play but that's ok with me because I hardly ever use those screwdrivers. The reason I got them was that I liked the concept.

Now up to more tools. Not all of them are necessarily made in Europe. At least they are available and used here.

The Berner bit ratchet should be handy when working in tight spots:

Berner_Bitratsche_03.jpg

I have absolutely no clue where the so-called Berner "Loop Ratchet" is made. It should be useful at (long) threaded rods and shock absorbers.

Berner_Loop_Ratchet_01.jpg

Berner_Loop_Ratchet_02.jpg

Berner_Loop_Ratchet_05.jpg

Combination wrenches from Berner, Solido and Proxxon. Interestingly, I recently discovered that there are (at least) some optical similarities between Berner, Proxxon und Toptul wrenches.

Berner_Solido_Proxxon_Maul-Ringschlüssel_04.jpg

Maul-Ringschlüssel_01.jpg

Hazet and Gedore box wrenches:

Hazet_Gedore_Ringschlüssel.jpg

My smallish collection of ratchets. More are on my list. I'm tempted to get a Gedore set that contains the Gedore U-20 ratchet but then again, when I played with the U-20 and the U-10 ratchet at a store, the U-10 was quite a bit smoother. It has less teeth though.

Ratschen_03.jpg

Stahlwille, Gedore, Usag, Proxxon and Berner sockets:

Stecknüsse_03.jpg

Genius (definitely not from the "old world"), Gedore and Stahlwille sockets:

Stecknüsse_09.jpg

Berner I-socket (not used yet) and conventional-style Berner socket:

Stecknüsse_10.jpg

Gedore Torx sockets:

Gedore_Torxnüsse_02.jpg

Does anyone know why the finish of Gedore 1/4" sockets differs from the finish of Gedore 1/2" sockets?

Quality hammers are essential to woodworkers and garage guys:

Hämmer_02.jpg

If you ever get the chance to use a Fein corded drill be careful. I may assure you that you won't be able to resist it. It operates extremely smoothly. It's hard to describe, you just have to feel it.

Fein_ASkeu_636_Kin_01.jpg

The Metabo angle grinder doesn't get much use in my shop. Nevertheless, I don't regret the investment. It's a well-built unit that performs flawlessly.

Have a nice day,

Nice flea market finds! Ahhhh...how fun it'll be to go to one out there and just dig through buckets, full of wrenches! :D

Luckily we have a virtual online flea market with this forum here ;)

The pic is ....from.... I don't remember where. It's not a FG magazine, but one of those other "Tools from the World" type magazine.
which one ? :)

which one ? :)

I don't know! There's quite a few books that have been published for over 10 years. I wish the publishers can do a re-run of all their hand tool related books...in a few different languages.

BTW, that Dowidat combi wrench has a very similar offset on the open end....like the Willes.

Welcome, Chreese! What a great addition to this thread. More unfamiliar brand names.
Nice to see some Unior stuff...their line of tools share a very German aesthetic.

@DS-21: Nice screwdrivers ! I like the old ones with the square blade , looks tough. The newer ones seem to have a slightly revised handle.
Do you also have one of their newer "ergo" style screwdrivers ? The older versions were made in germany, the newer ones are from spain now.

Yea I like them too! Only problem is the square bladers are hard to find in unused condition, the newest are about 30 years old...
These 1980's are the only ergo's I have.:(

Thanks chreese for these beautiful pics !

re: Berner: I`m pretty sure the Loop ratchet and the mini ratchet/rat. wrenches are from Taiwan. Do the regular Berner wrench say "germany" somewhere ?

There are somehow similarities between the wrenches of a lot of different brands:

kji14.jpg

I think there is already almost every design which you can think of on the market hence the similarities.

ps: Very beautiful Picard hammer with leather handle !!

I wish I wouldn`t spent all the money on screwdrivers + other stuff since a Fein drill is still on my wishlist (ASke 636)

BTW screwdrivers: :D

Servus,

Hey Chreese did you post picts of your box somewhere?

Not yet. I don't have any good pics of it right now.

Do the regular Berner wrench say "germany" somewhere ?

I don't think so but as I don't have access to the wrenches at the moment, I can't tell you for sure that there's no "Germany" or "Made in Germany".

Thanks for the photo of the wrenches, Monte. As for WGB, I was at a "Bauhaus" store last week. No Matador but Proxxon and lots of WGB labelled with "Wisent".

Indeed, the Picard hammer is nice. When I took it out of the drawer that it has been resting in for months I had to discover that the handle had started to rust. Quite annoying.

I wish I wouldn`t spent all the money on screwdrivers + other stuff since a Fein drill is still on my wishlist (ASke 636)

Get a fine Fein drill, you won't be sorry.
I don't even want to know how much money I've already spent on screwdrivers. It's an obsession.

BTW, Monte, can you compare the U-10 Gedore ratchet to the Stahlwille (quick release) ratchets and the Hazet 916/8816 P/863 P? Which ones are the smoothest ratchets?

The wrench in the middle might be from Walter. I know it is part of a tool set (ratchet, wrenches, sockets etc.) that my father bought many years ago. If I recall correctly, it says "Walter" on the box the tools were purchased in.

Somehow it seems that I do own too many wrenches … if it is possible to own too many tools at all …

@Chreese: I thought Matador is also available in Austria , since the dude on the phone said that they deliver to 170 Bauhaus branches Europe-wide. The prices are nice: 1/2" deep sockets from 4,20 Euro (13mm) to 4,80 Euro (19mm), 1/2" Torx50 6,10 €, or 3/8" dr. hex sockets from 3,90 to 4,80 € (6/8 mm). Made in germany...

sorry to hear that the hammer rusted. Some of my tools also rust, usually the nickel plated ones and the phosphate finish ones since the humidity is very high here in the winter so there is a wet coat on all metal surfaces during the winter...

still want one :)
Ganzstahl-Latthammer.jpg

I only have these ratchets at hand right now but the Gedores are the smoothest since they have a 2 pawl setup ( 2 seperate Sperrstücke) The Gedore ones also should be smoother than the Hazets ( only 1 pawl)
The pictured fine tooth ratchets have a similar feel, except the 3/8" Hazet which seems to be smoother than the 3/8" Facom and also the 1/4 and 1/2" Versions. The Stahlwille ratchet is smoother than the CAT/SO 936 ratchets.

hjkj55-1.jpg

As you can see you can lock the ratchet in the middle position so both pawls are engaged which result in higher strengh for initial loosening or final tightening

But the Grip-it looks identical, and since Witte also has a Patent on tool handles with any kind of coating it`s pretty clear that they`re Wittes.

Apparently, Matador is not available at Austrian Bauhaus stores. This applies at least to the store I visited last week which is rather new and large. It even has a drive-in-area.
A few hours ago, I wrote an email to Bauhaus. Hopefully, I'll receive some helpful information.
Regarding the pricing, I wasn't too enthused about the prices on Matador tools that I found in a Bauhaus catalogue on the German Bauhaus website.

sorry to hear that the hammer rusted.

There are only a few rusty/rusting spots very close to the leather handle. Maybe it has to do with glue or other chemicals that are used in order to attach the leather to the hammer.

Thanks for the enlightening words about the ratchets.
I guess, I'll change my plans and get a Gedore U-10 instead of the Stahlwille quick release ratchet that was on my list.

Chreese, I'd say you have a pretty healthy selection of 12mm-13mm wrenches to get any job done. :shocking:
How old are the Unior wrenches you have?

I'm glad you used the word "healthy", not "unhealthy". :bounce: Most of the wrenches shown were bought in sets. Thus my "healthy" selection goes from 6 to 32 mm. Reading this forum isn't good at all ... It even scares me that I have only a single (no collection!) 36 mm combination wrench.
The Unior wrench(es) were purchased in 2006. Unfortunately, I can't contribute anything about the production date.

Have a nice day,

Chreese

Interesting find yes...but unless you work in a clean room, I would skip those screwdrivers. Those fuzzy handles attract grease like a moth is attracted to a flame...and are pretty much impossible to clean. I had a set of Matco screwdrivers made by Witte (with the same fuzz), and while they are nicely made, and the handles feel nice, they look like **** really quickly.

Yes I have. Or no, it's a pickup '82 Jeep J-20. Volvos up to 1970s use SAE too. Plus there are a LOT of old american iron in sweden:)

The "Hjort" is the oldest, I think the "70-series" was introduced in 1920s.

Here some from the Orenco works, mainly from the 1950s

I already heard from ppl who visited sweden that there are a lot of american cars since you also don`t have to pay tax for cars older than 30 years i heard ? When my monte carlo will be finished in a couple of decades :) I`ll visit Västeras for sure !! http://www.bigmeet.com/

You're right: Screwdrivers are in my opinion one of the really weak spots in the US tool business. The common stuff comes with el cheapo non-ergonomic hard plastic handles and weak blades. Most of them are also not available with go-through blades. So no prying and hammering.

The only nice ones I saw were imports from Europe or Asia. The truck brands may have something that compares but even they could rely on re-badged imported stuff. I was so happy when Toptul made decent, reasonably priced screwdrivers available in the US.

Servus,

@fatfillup
Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate them.

@Monte
For some reason, I can justify to spend lots of money on tools fairly easily but at the same time I can't convince myself that $ 200 for a digital camera are a good investment. Now that I have posted almost all pics I took last week, I bet I'll be the first to stop.

Beta: Do you also own a set of T-handle hex drivers 951? If yes, how do you like them?

@ricleh: I already have a 1/2" Metabo drill so i thought a small/light 3/8" drill would be good.
IIRC you own a lot of Fein tools ? Sander, angle grinder, vacuum, jigsaw ?

Also, the ratchet heads and beam seem to resemble the Willes, and the abundance of spline sockets....just a coincidence?
