New Facom knife.....Monte, why are these so expensive ($232 list price) ?? These are Georg Jensen silver prices....SD

in Europe it´s much cheaper (around €120.-). Maybe it´s a limited production run tool (?) or because it´s made from (drop forged ?) stainless steel ? or maybe it´s made in france ? Hence the price ?
Or simply because the competitors in the knife market are expensive too ?

my new el cheapo plasma cutter:

Monte,

Please give some feedback re CUT 40 plasma cutter when you have a chance. I was looking at one on ebay this morning but have no clue if they are any good. May have some welding project going on soon and not very keen on cutting a few large 5mm steel plates with an angle grinder.

Thanks.

Or you could get the big 9" Metabo grinder from Costco for £90 :)

KNIPEX:

KNIPEX_13_86_200_001_zpsb5da6062.jpg

Some words about the KNIPEX 13 86 200:
I got them 'cause they looked very good at first glance, but the thing is that there's no such thing as a multifunctional tool. Such is the case here too. They look excellent in the new Knipex video that Monte posted a few days ago, but when you start using them for real you'll see that you won't be smiling like the guy in the commercial.
These pliers work best as cable shears and needle nose pliers.
The cutting edges are for copper and aluminum cables only. Cutting steel will damage them. Actually on the back of the handles is written "Do not cut steel".
The jaws are not wide enough to grab 3 or 4 wires and twist them. For that you need combination or lineman's pliers.
Next ... the stripping part is buried way too deep into the jaws and it's not comfortable to strip wires in tight spaces.
The outer edges all the way to "Crimp" and "0,5-2,5"are sharp so you can wide holes in plastic. That's useful.

So ... the bottom line is - these pliers 13 86 200 cost about 50-55 euro.
A pair of VDE long nose pliers like 26 16 200 cost around 30 euro. The 95 16 165 cable shears cost 40-45 euro, so I think the price is great.

But remember 13 86 200 can't replace a pair of diagonal cutters like 74 06 180 and combination pliers like 01 06 190.

I may as it looks like plasma cutters need air supply to run. With all this extra equipment my work bench will not have any place for the toolbox! LOL

I decided to buy a corded drill. I think that this is nice for general use. Any suggestions? Can I take any better with a price close to this one? I want it mainly for drilling in steel and some time in concrete but how good is it for screwing? I know that the cordless are better for screwing but the next in the line is a small Angle Grinder so for a lot of time I have to do everything with this.

I picked these up for a buck at a garage sale. No brand name on them but I'm pretty sure it's the only tool I have "Made in Western Germany" - i.e. prior to reunification.

They are a decent set of pliers....

Hi guys,

Anybody knows what Hazet warranty is like when it comes to chrome chipping? Some of my sockets, extensions and a breaker bar are less then 1 year old but already have chrome peel/chip around the corners and edges. I'm a DYI'er/hobbyist not a pro wrench so the items have only seen very light occasional use. I've been building my mostly Hazet tool collection for a almost year now and I'm somewhat disappointed with the finish giving up so early! I emailed the dealer but thought I'd ask here too.

Thanks.

I'm equally disappointed with my Hazet sockets. The sliding T came brand new with an area the size of a dime with no chrome. Some of the sockets with very light use began to lose their chrome on the edges. My 10mm 600N wrench has a large nick on the open end edge from light use. What's the story? Is Hazet quality just a myth? Are we all in denial???

I've got Snap-On sockets and wrenches that are 60 years old with thousands of hours of hard professional use that are still in excellent condition. (I inherited them from my great-grandfather who was a professional technician)
My Stahlwille, Gegore and Snap-On tools seem to be a lot more durable.

I sent some pictures back to my supplier and they forwarded them to Hazet. I'm yet to hear of the outcome but will update here on my findings.

Wow, no issue with my Hazet chrome, either ones I bought new or used.

mmm Is strange, I agree with bart1, I have a couple of hazet wrenches and ratchets and they are like new, and I worked with this brand since I was a child and although the finish are not as nice as Snapon or Nepros, the quality is execellent.

Although, always exists the posibility that a wrench come with defects, but I think than this is not the rule

 Interesting, how old are this drill?

Just got these in... Wiha/Heyco E-Torx and a Wera Zyklop ratchet.

I have the 1/2 version, is a very good ratchet, but is most useful the 3/8 version, because IMO the ratcheting screwdriver modality is more versatil in this size

I might buy one if I find it in a good price, since I use my 1/4 a lot. Or maybe this..

No trouble at all. I figure -it's not so bad at the top of an extension where it's out of the way, and it only cost about £5 +shipping

That's really nice also - I could be persuaded to buy one if they're not expensive :)

...Lots of pics....

Wow looks great! I have a set of Facom (of course!) ratcheting stubbies with the bit-adapter. I also have a dedicated Facom bit ratchet. The bit ratchet is very handy (I built a shed with it!), but I think the larger stubby with adapter would probably be a bit stronger.

I love the offset screwdrivers! I've only seen small photos of the Gedore ones - and it's hard to appreciate when you can't see the detail. I have a few German-made Format versions (look to be the same as the Wiha offering) - just the slot version as I can't find either the philips or pozi by Format or Wiha for anything close to a reasonable price.

Thanks for the action pics. I have some Stahlwille shallow offset and a Hazet deep offset wrench. Gedore looks more like the Hazet. the Stahl has the I-Beam profile and is very light due to this.

My bit ratchet, ratcheting screwdriver, etc. It's a Husky, made in Taiwan by Reverse Gear:

for the price you won´t find anything better... or go with lower quality like B+D.....but thats not really an option :)

the slides are most likely not made by Stahlwille so i would remove one and look if there is a brand name on the slide or shop for a similar one.

no :)
the lower priced drills are from Russia nowadays.
The first series of the GSB 13 was made in switzerland but thats years and years ago....

The strap wrench is the best I have seen. I have one and it is nothing but frustrating and mostly a toy. This one is heavy duty and the poly coated nylon should grip well. The bit holder is nice and a good match for my stubby I have had for some time.
you right most of the strap wrench in the market now not as tough as we expect, your Hazet looks really tough for professional use I'm sure it can handle the heavy duty tasks.
btw: nice looking Hazet classic handle bits drivers!

Definitely German made. :)
nice impact driver!!!

I use my toolbag mostly for chemicals. But I also have some tools different from the others in the toolbox, like this long screwdriver.
One old orbis insulated plier, my favorite Fit, cheap scissor and this old gedore T-handle which work only with cheater bar. :D (My breaker bar sadly doesn't arrived yet).
Organizer.
Gloves, tapes, glasses, brushes rags, and other..
Inches and metric allen keys not from force..
Thanks for the stories and awesome pics..really nice bag load with nice tools :beer:

Nice action pics. VW Golf MK3? Or is it a Vento/Jetta?

My bit ratchet, ratcheting screwdriver, etc. It's a Husky, made in Taiwan by Reverse Gear:

That looks like a good bit ratchet.

Regarding bit ratchets, I use the Bahco 2058s26 set, and really can recommend it. I like it so much I bought 2 (one for home and one for the garage). It's made in Taiwan, and the bits are not as good as some top brands, but the ratcheting is great and the price is good. I'm sure the same ratchet/kit can be found from other brands also.

Lots of reasons to not want one, but bulk and weight? This thing is tiny - I thought Sweden was full of big strong guys? :D

I can actually see it maybe being most useful in a portable kit - when I need the strength of a t-bar, and I need a ratchet -but now I don't need to also pack a ratchet.

Mostly I bought it thought because it was cheap, and it was Koken :rocker:

It's good to have options though - If I spot a nice ratcheting t-handle or driver for anything close to the price of this I will snap those up as well

I have this drill. Bought mine on ebay lightly used for around £30. New I think is around £80. I think it probably is made in China (the label only says "D-72622 Nurtingen, Made by Metabo"), but it's an excellent drill- smooth, plenty of power, easy to control and nicely balanced. It has a quality feel even if it is made in China. I suspect it would be hard to do much better for similar money.

What I meant is that on 1/4" stuff, I see size and balance as very important, and bulk at the end often is bad for both. But yeah, I see that it was a bit funny thing to say. :lol_hitti

I'm not strong though, I'm a computer programmer... :)

Buying something because it's a quality at a low price I understand fully though. I would absolutely do the same! And if it is something I don't have, even better. Was just saying that I don't see the adapter as a optimal solution.
