Canada paid $37.33 CDN.

Servus, folks,

Once again, great posts!:)

I think that my next investment will be a good bench vise, I like the Brockhaus Heuer and Leinen, I just worry that they don't seem to have a "play compensation" system (don't know the english word, sorry), somebody knows?

I just got myself a 120 mm Matodor vise in addition to the 180 mm model I already have.

IMG_1358.jpg

As others pointed out, Matador vises offer a play compensation. I found no play in the new 120 vise. There is some play in the 180 mm vise I can't get rid off, however. I'm not sure what the problem is. Never mind, I bought this vise used for a low price and the play is only noticeable when I rattle at the opened jaw. The vise still opens and closes precisely.

The socket trays come from ebay.com, you can't miss them... They're nice, easy to get the sockets in/out, they've never fallen down. However they're more appropriate for a tool carts, I can't put 2 trays in line, my tool box is not long enough, I think I'll move on a tool cart if I buy more tools (thing which may happen :D)

Thanks for the tip. I don't know how and where to store my sockets, extensions and ratchets. I need to find a solution for that. Those socket trays might be helpful.
On one hand, it would be nice to have everything at one place/in one box. On the other hand, it seems inconvenient and/or a waste of space to store a socket set that comes in a case in a toolbox. And, not to forget, basic stuff should be mobile.

The J.360 ratchet is awesome, I love it! The rotary handle makes working under the hood of a car far easier. You don't have to play with extensions and joints to have your ratchet in a space with enough room for ratcheting. As long as you can reach the bolt it's fine, just turn the handle, of course it has to be loosened before, but most of the job can be done with the rotary handle.
Another nice thing is that it always turn in the way you preset, no matter if you turn the handle clockwise or counterclockwise (you don't use the handle the same way as a screwdriver) you just do a "to and fro" movement with your wrist, it goes 2 times faster!

That sounds good. How durable is the rotary ratchet compared to standard ratchets?

As for the Stahlwille tire levers we talked about: All of them are made from Chrome Alloy Steel. Model 39/3 Lkw is slimmer and less sturdy than model 39/2 Lkw according to Stahlwille. That's it.

Regarding high leverage cutters: I could use a type that can cut very close to a surface. What would you recommend, Monte?

The flat tire levers look different from each manufacturer, Hazet has a "H" profile, Gedore too but with flat parts and Stahlwille have their distinctive Stahlwille design which they also use for their wrenches.

And that's the reason why I need at least one Stahlwille tire lever. ;)

I opened the Elektra Beckum bench grinder. The switch is "Made in Romania" and the condenser/capacitor "Made in Spain". So i think its at least a european product. Bosch grinders are from Bulgaria and some (?) or all (?) Metabo and Flott grinders are/were made in poland.

Thanks for checking that out.

I love the old packagings; hate the new blister packagings!

Welcome back, superautobacs. Did you pick up any tools in Europe? Did you enjoy the trip?

yes good price indeed. The Wisent sets too. I think i have to visit Bauhaus soon :)
Show some pics of the Berool set :) They look nice ! (mine will be shipped on monday :) )
"Obi" has "Lux" screwdrivers also from Germany (Felo). "Connex" also from germany (Walter Schröder). Punches + Chisels are also most often from germany, tube sockets too, often pliers etc. So it`s not too bad :)
"Wisent" wrenches once also came from germany. They now have Matador though. Also good. Wisent pliers unfortunately no longer german made (old ones from Will)

I just got myself a 120 mm Matodor vise in addition to the 180 mm model I already have.

congratulation !!!!!!!! Do you have some pics without box ? :)

The VDE pliers with thick insulation are quite rare among hobbyist (as well as the large cutter :) ) So i guess you`re a professional ? What other tools do you have ? I see a Wera bit in the Facom screwdriver :D

No, I forgot to take a pic of the vise after I had unpacked the box.
In case you're interested in what else I bought from Hoffmann:

Yes I am an electrician, good call!
Most of my other tools have already been posted by others....my other favourite 'tool' is my Veto Pro Pac XXL, but of course that is American.

Unfortunately, I lost a number of pics during a struggle with the camera. As a consequence, I didn't get pictured everything.

Let's start off with photos of the Garant 250 mm pliers wrench. I also bought the 180 mm version but didn't take pics of it.

I have to buy one of those. Very nice.

Here are the torx screwdrivers I got with the Hazet 166N. The handle are very nice and comfortable. I believe these are made by FELO for HAZET.

Very nice, Aza. Also nice to see some more Irazola screwdrivers. I'm a fan and hopefully will buy some more in a couple weeks in Spain.

Which part of the rainy island do you live in?

Thanks Moose, the Irazola drivers are very nice.
I am from Kent, not too far from London :)

I saw Stabila levels at Harry Epstien. Can you guys elaborate one them?

The chrome finish on the Knipex pliers is fantastic. Why would anyone buy rust prone non-coated pliers?

How does the Garant pliers wrench work? Do the jaws stay parallel or is it a simple pivot? Are they wider than the Knipex pliers wrench?

About the Stabila levels.....when I was looking into buying my level I searched on the internet and read that they are the best, unfortunately I cannot remember the sources :(
Apparently they stay true even if they are abused a fair bit.

The one I have is the 120th anniversary limited edition. The usual colours are red and yellow of course.

As far as i know they're the industry standard. I've got a 24" traditional one and it's great. My dad has some that are 30 years old and they still look new. Can't fault them for anything. Incredibly robusts and excellent quality.

Good stuff, nice to know there are some 'locals' on here :)

I am looking for a set of all chrome cutters, like these:
70041604k.jpg

However they only do 140mm, which are too small (even though the image shows 160)
Does anyone know of a company that produces something similar but in a larger size, up to 180mm or so?
Cheers

Thanks,

Just got these the other day. The new Lineman's Pliers and a Inomic Long Nose pliers.

The new Lineman's Pliers are huge! It says "Swiss Made" on them, too.
32821px500angle.jpg

I think the Inomic pliers are made in Vietnam. There's no marking where they're made, so I guess it must be the Wiha factory in Vietnam.

I got my Heuer vise brand new for 47,19 € and its worth it :) so if the Rothenberger vise goes for 40 or 50 or 60 i would buy it.... you always need another vise :) (welding table....). In this PDF on page 31 you can see the spare parts prices for "Ersatzspindeln" for the "Garant" (also fits Leinen they write) vise (part # 871050) and Leinen-Junior vise.
(prices + tax). My handle is also bent but still slides. I`ll try to straighten it with a mobile hydraulic press which i built.

I won the Rothenberger! 37€ seems a fair price :bounce: also had a Rothenberger pipe vise from the same guy for 15 €, just in case :) Thank you for the link :bowdown::beer:
I'll pick them up next week when I'll have finished my exams, I'll post pics for sure!
I also bought a used Leinen E 125 on ebay.de, bent handle and chipped paint but I'll see in which condition it is when it will be at home, if the slides are in good shape it's all that I want! I'll repaint it this summer and maybe give him a new screw...

I think that now I'm equipped with vises, just maybe a Magnat to satisfy my compulsive need of a vise with play compensation :lol_hitti

Now I should worry about building a good workbench ...

Thanks for the tip. I don't know how and where to store my sockets, extensions and ratchets. I need to find a solution for that. Those socket trays might be helpful.

That sounds good. How durable is the rotary ratchet compared to standard ratchets?

I think that tool boxes are nice because you can move them easily, but if you want something tidy and ergonomic, a toolbox is just too small... If you want to carry many things in it you have to do stacks of tools and sometimes search a little bit for the tool you need, but good compromises can be found...
I prefer the tool carts about this point, you can put all the usual tools in them and still have everything accessible, this one is on my wish list:

Facomjetxl.jpg

About the J.360 durability I can't say anything, I have it since 2 months... I guess that the mechanism is a bit weaker than usual ratchets as it is more complex, however the head is bigger than the normal 3/8 Facom ratchet, I suppose that the parts are well sized...
The ratchet "feel" robust and precise, but it's a very subjective opinion...

"Wisent" wrenches once also came from germany. They now have Matador though. Also good. Wisent pliers unfortunately no longer german made (old ones from Will)

But there are two groups of matador wrenches. Looked at that too :p. The cheap and the expensive one. The cheap group (prices even to proxxon) don't got a germany stamp. The expensive group got one, but costs the double amount of the cheap ones.

ACESA(spain) made in Japan.

:pimpflash I wonder how long ACESA has been sourcing this from Japan. My immediate response was TOP.

I'd guess the same on Vietnam being the origin, but I'm stumped on the Swiss origin for the lineman's pliers. I'm not sure who's the manufacturer. :headscrat

@AZA,

@Monte,

Nice collection of product boxes! :thumbup:

I don't have very many boxes (some Ko-ken and IPS), but I safely keep all my product cards. :D

@chreese:

nice !!! i like the size markings on the pliers ! have to get the 7" version....

@Garage Mahal:

just checked the screwdriver..... it only looks like that. It has scratches etc. everywhere so it looks dull now, but it is not melted.

@Hazet:
nice screwdrivers !!!!

@aspera:
yes the jaws of the pliers wrench always stay parallel.
The jaw width of the Garant/VBW and knipex pliers wrench (at least the 10") is identical. The max. opening almost (Knipex about 1mm more). Main difference is the construction/design and the angle of the head. Knipex with one row of teeth inside the box joints. Garant/VBW 2 rows of teeth in the outside of the box joint. The moveable jaw of the Garant/VBW pliers are also always fully supported by the guide, Knipex not.

Regarding levels: BMI also makes nice levels. Sola probably too :)

@Bhae:
interesting !
This Gedore ratchet somehow also looks japanese :)

6262790_big.JPG

@Aza:
i bet these Knipex pliers were available also in larger sizes, Hazet and Belzer etc. once had similar pliers. Maybe look out for old stock ?

@carder69
I don`t know who makes them but AFAIK Würth has no own tool production except screwdrivers (Felo) They do produce screws etc.

@Dennis The Menace:
do you have a pic with the "swiss made" on the pliers ??? My Inomic pliers say "made in germany" but it`s the other style with the red /black handles and "MIM" head and not the forged head. I guess the forged part is from Vietnam hence no origin on the (newer) pliers. (or complete production is now there ?)

puntyx086.jpg

@Cantause:
nice deal !!!!! you **** !!! :D !!+§$%&"ß !!!! I`ll give you 45.- for the vise and 20.- for the pipe vise !!!!!! :D
I think you will like the Leinen more so send me the Rothenberger !! :D
Post some pics when you got them !! :drool::drool::drool:

The solution is simple !! Buy 2 tools of everything :)

by the way tool box.... since you were looking for another one (? iirc ?)

how about one of these "Made in Austria" ?

@epiphany
where did you find the Sora screwsticks ?
Which Matador wrenches exactly (open end ?)? Visited Bauhaus today, took a look at the Wisent screwdrivers and the Bauhaus anniversary hammer drill and cordless drill from Kress (89.- €, Li-Ion, 1,5 AH, swiss made). But I couldn´t find identical wrenches, one cheap the other expensive ??

Mhh, maybe my eyes were a little bit sleepy. Took a look at the double offset box wrench set. They got two of them. One set (8pcs.) is listed at the catalogue with 29,95€ and they got another set at 48,95€. At the expensive set, i could see "Matador Germany", at the cheap set only "Matador". I'll investigate further :bounce:.
Did you buy some screwdrivers? :)
Got the Sora screwdrivers from eBay, they sell some leftovers? Sadly, the shop don't sell every size and the screwdrivers look different. Bought tx 15, 20 and 25 screwdrivers at 2,20, 2,50 and 2,50. The screwdriver at the bottom seems to be the old version? Like that one more. Looks better and feels better. The junction from the red hex part to the black holder looks cheap at the new one. The printed logo and the hole at the back, too.
:wtf:

Confirmed today that the truth lies between true and false. False, there are no cheap and expensive prices. Didn't notice that some sets got 8 pieces and some 12 pieces.. True, there exist wrenches with "Matador" and without "Germany". Bought two open end wrenches, one was in front of and the other last one, behind all others. The wrench from behind got a "Germany" on it, the wrench from the front don't. I'll post a picture later...

Is the finish the same on both wrenches or is the color variation due to the flash? The one at the bottom seems to have the typical German finish (e.g. Hazet, Elora, Gedore, etc.). The one on top seems to be shinnier, which could be an indication of not German made. Both have the German spelling for Chrome (i.e. Chrom). Interesting comparison.

Good eyes! You're right. the finish differs. The wrench at the bottom got the 'classical' finish and the wrench at the top some strange variation finish.

No post without pic:

no i didn`t buy any Wisent screwdrivers.... Still don`t know if i want the name on any of my tools :D ;).....
The Sora driver on top is the recent style i think

when i first saw the new wrenches i called Matador and spoke to the boss of distribution ( Herr Kieper oder so ?) and he sweared that they still make the wrenches in germany, and invited me to the factory to drink a coffee :). They wanted to try out a different style of wrenches he said. Maybe the customers prefer the sleek taiwanese look in the meantime so that´s what they get now :) . Maybe - if Hazet has another "open house" at their next birthday and I`m in Remscheid (hopefully) - i will check that out and ring the doorbell at the Matador factory..... :)

a bigger pic:

@Cantause:
what did you pay for the Leinen vise ??

@dlfiene
nice selection !! :D
so you bought all remaining clear blue Gedore drivers from the dutch ? :)

An eco-friendly tool eh....reminds me of Vessel`s eco-friendly screwdriver with recyclable blade and handle. Trend of the future? :confused: ;)

Hazet is also eco-friendly. Their packages are recyclable and they help to protect the very seldom blue/gold colored "Hazet" butterflies with wrench shaped body found only in the region of Remscheid. The food has to be imported from Holland though because the butterfly only likes Marihuana leaves. :D :boxer:
